Holiday Season Means Travel
Happy Halloween! Well, it is tomorrow. We still have a very soft spot in our hearts for Halloween because we still love candy, American Horror Story, The Shining, and just having some unpretentious and silly fun on occasion.
The daily Travel Alert Center reports (https://instagram.com/travel_alert_center) are now in full gear, make sure that you vote next Tuesday (if you haven't already), get that Thanksgiving turkey soon, and get ready for the holidays!

Destination Spotlight: Galveston, Texas
Coastal Community. Galveston Island, Texas, is a pretty unique community when it comes to Texas. While still full of that Texas spirit, this is also a vibrant coastal community with a very strong tourism segment. About an hour drive south from Houston, this is a big-time summer destination. Weekends are packed, lines are long, but people really seem to enjoy their time here.
What To Do, What To See
Seawall Boulevard. This is where all the action is on the island. With a Gulf-facing coastline about 47 km in length -- and a good chunk of this being sandy beaches -- people flock here to enjoy the Sun, water, and sand. Cars line up along Seawall Boulevard so people can take a short walk right to the beach.
How's the beach (https://www.visitgalveston.com/things-to-do/beaches/) ? Don't expect a pristine white sand beach reminiscent of the Gulf coast of Florida. A bit rougher, maybe not quite as scenic, the water's a bit more turbulent, but still a decent beach destination that many people enjoy. Along the beach, you'll find the historic Pleasure Pier (https://pleasurepier.com) , the 61st Street Fishing Pier, and the 91st Street Pier. Beach rentals are available, i.e., chairs, umbrellas, etc.
Not Just About Beaches
Non-Beach Fun. Galveston is also so much more than their beaches (https://www.visitgalveston.com/things-to-do/) . Family, group, and cultural activities abound, as do tours of various types. These include fishing excursions (https://www.viator.com/agent-trip-suggestions/W-6756efb4-37f1-4a0d-9412-d7dbcb49863f?currency=USD&allowNativeApp=false) , dolphin watching boat tours (https://www.viator.com/agent-trip-suggestions/W-6756efb4-37f1-4a0d-9412-d7dbcb49863f?currency=USD&allowNativeApp=false) , cultural tours (https://www.viator.com/agent-trip-suggestions/W-6756efb4-37f1-4a0d-9412-d7dbcb49863f?currency=USD&allowNativeApp=false) , and pub crawls (https://www.viator.com/agent-trip-suggestions/W-6756efb4-37f1-4a0d-9412-d7dbcb49863f?currency=USD&allowNativeApp=false) . And Then There's the Food....
Tastes So Good. Downtown Galveston is also a very walkable area with plenty of history, as well as a dizzying array of shops and restaurants. Click HERE (https://www.visitgalveston.com/food-drink/) for a guide on where to eat, but we want to highlight three places where we've enjoyed some very fine meals: Little Daddy's Gumbo Bar (https://littledaddysgumbobar.com/) , Willie G's Seafood (https://www.williegs.com/location/willie-gs-galveston/) , and Landry's Seafood House (https://www.landrysseafoodhouse.com/location/landrys-seafood-galveston/) .
At Little Daddy's (https://littledaddysgumbobar.com/galveston-menu) , we highly recommend the Creole Seafood Empanadas, fried alligator, crawfish etouffee, and bread pudding. Galveston is close enough to New Orleans to have a really nice Cajun cuisine influence. The place has a lot of character, too! By comparison, Willie G's and Landry's are a bit more refined, especially Willie G's. While sitting outside on the back porch area at Willie G's (https://www.williegs.com/location/willie-gs-galveston/) , enjoy some seafood and sushi while gazing out into the harbor. Landry's (https://www.landrysseafoodhouse.com/location/landrys-seafood-galveston/) also has delicious seafood options; we enjoyed a hearty redfish platter during our last visit.
