School bus stop arms are not just a suggestion. They exist because of a history of tragedies.

Decades ago, too many children were struck by cars while crossing the street to get on or off school buses. In response, every U.S. state passed laws requiring traffic to stop in both directions when a school bus is picking up or dropping off kids.

Those few extra seconds of waiting protect lives.

Walking is one of the easiest ways to stay active, clear your head, and enjoy the outdoors in Tulsa. But when you’re sharing the streets, staying safe matters just as much as staying healthy. Items like reflective gear and even your phone flashlight can make all the difference when you're out walking, especially at dusk or after dark.

As pedestrians, let’s do our part to be seen, stay alert, and help everyone travel with care.

New York City saved lives by lowering its speed limit from 30 to 25 miles per hour. That same limit in school zones and downtown areas exists for a reason. It helps us avoid accidents on the road.

From New York to Downtown Tulsa, slowing down and paying attention helps everyone get home safe.

Natalie walked away from her crash, but not everyone does.
She had the right of way, yet the driver didn’t stop.
In a split second, everything went south.

She was lucky—bruised and shaken, but alive.

Crashes like this are preventable. Whether you’re driving, biking, or walking, we all have a role to play. Stay alert, look out for each other, and travel with care.
