Disappointment -

Every morning, I head to the gym early, and like any regular gathering place, there’s a rhythm to it all. The 5:00am before-work crowd, the 7:30am work-from-home group. The familiar faces drift in and out as the day unfolds. Over time, you get to know people — or at least I do.

Avant-Garde -

I’ve always loved those fancy little phrases—avant-garde just rolls off the tongue, oh so French. At its heart, it simply means something new, unusual, a little experimental—especially in the arts.

The Rose Vase -

The dismantling began the day after Dad’s funeral. We gathered in his apartment, the five of us moving quietly through familiar rooms that still felt lived in, still feeling his presence, deciding what to keep and what to release.

Cobblestones -

I was looking through some old photos the other day and the assignment was to look for images and themes that I frequently photograph. Here at home I tend to take pictures of the flowers and gardens but when I travel give me a cobblestone street and I’ll make at least one if not several photos. Un...

Eternal Echoes -

The last time we hugged he said to me, “This is probably the last time I will see you, cause I’m not going to live forever.” And just a few weeks later he was gone. My father looms large in my legend, I am the oldest, I am the first daughter. I was very fortunate because in my book he was one ...

Remember that famous quote by Maya Angelou - “When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time. People know themselves much better than you do. That's why it's important to stop expecting them to be something other than who they are.”

Keeping Up -

Remember that old phrase, “Keeping up with the Joneses?” The striving to match, or compare yourself to your neighbors in wealth, success, and status. I always wondered who “they” were.

Postpartum Blues -

Well, it is all over: the book, the party, the vacation with dad. Home again. Lots to do but really don’t even feel like it. Ok, jet lag does have something to do with it, as I got in late last night. However, it is more than that.

Bonus Points -

Those who sent birthday cards to dad - thank you. It was quite the party and dad was up for the occasion. For me, the bonus was the completion of a project that has taken me almost a year to bring to life.

He Made It! -

This Friday, March 20th my father arrives at the Century mark. Friday night a family gathering, Saturday the BIG party, Sunday we gather and depart. Whew, I know it tires me, I’m sure dad is thinking the same thing, “when will they be coming and how soon will they be leaving!”

The Stand In -

Somehow the words of that speech resonate with me these days. Not again and not “there” - a place we have been mired in for so long and now like quicksand have been pulled back in. And at the present we seem powerless to prevent being continually sucked into the morass of the Middle East.
