Who loves FREEBIES?! 🙋🏼‍♀️

This summer, you can get FREE admission to Typhoon Lagoon or Blizzard Beach on the day of your resort check in! (Park Hopper Plus tickets always have a free entry to a water park that you can use during your stay!) In a rare opportunity to choose, Disney has BOTH parks open this summer—and we can’t decide which we like best! Plus, you get a free day of mini-golf at Fantasia Gardens (walking distance to the Boardwalk area with free validated parking—we loved walking over to the new Cake Bakery this morning!) or Winter Summerland (where you can see Santa and the reindeer and pretend you’re not in the Florida heat)! We had a blast on this trip and only had one day of park tickets. Let me know how I can help you plan!

Have you ever been to DisneyLAND? I might be a convert!

Here are a few of the reasons:
1. Close to several beautiful national parks—you can easily visit Joshua Tree, Channel Islands, and Death Valley, or Sequoia/Kings Canyon!
2. Direct flight to LAX from Memphis 🙌
3. Easier line/crowd management system
4. Smaller/more compact parks—easier to traverse
5. No broiling Florida sun
6. NO BUSES! Resort hotels are a brief stroll from both parks
7. IncrediCoaster at Disney’s California Adventure is the best thrill ride—and the Guardians of the Galaxy remake of Tower of Terror is a lot more fun than the original!

What do you think? Disneyland won’t replace Disney World for us, but we may have to alternate!

Day 4: not understanding how HUGE WDW is! Once we had a the brilliant idea to go to the FREE Chip and Dale Campfire Sing-a-Long (complete with s’mores) and swim at the pool at Ft Wilderness. Ft Wilderness is MASSIVE (with many guests taking advantage of golf cart rentals) and as a non-deluxe resort didn’t offer towel service at the pool. We ended up with hot, wet, tired kids hiking a half mile to find a bus back to our hotel. We’ve also ended up running off the monorail to make a dining reservation because it took longer than we expected to make it from our hotel room. Lesson learned! With a little planning, you can conquer your wildest dreams—let me help!

Day 4! Mistake to avoid: not doing homework on Genie+ 🧞‍♂️!

Our first trip, we burned a precious FastPass (predecessor line-skipping tool at Disney) on the lame Nemo show. Not our smartest move! I have Genie+ down to a science and would love to help you plan how to avoid lines at all costs. Disney is a splurge, and you don’t want to waste your precious time waiting in line or wandering around! Of course, Disney is rolling out even more changes—but I’d love to help you navigate them.

Mistake 3: NOT taking advantage of special events!

Usual park capacity is around 250K. Special ticketed events like Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party, Hollywood Studios (or Epcot/Magic Kingdom) After Hours, or Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party limit attendance to 50K, feature special snacks, rare character meets, and in the case of the Halloween and Christmas parties, a fabulous parade! Bonus: all of these start at 7PM and go until after midnight, so no having to chase kids to reapply sunscreen or roast in the sun. Plus so much extra magic—it “snows” on Main Street at the Christmas party! There are snacks included with the price of the ticket (cookies and hot chocolate/cider at Christmas, trick or treating with full sized candy bars at Halloween, popcorn and soda and ice cream at the after hours throughout the year).

We’ve tried them all and are MAJOR fans—but the word is out, and they DO sell out! The Halloween celebration lasts from Sept-Oct 31, and Christmas Nov 8-Dec 20. These are also fun bookends to a cruise! I’d love to tell you more!

Another day, another Lilley family Disney lesson learned! Today let’s talk about the temptation to add just one more day!

Lesson 2: if you want to add park days, you’ve gotta do it before last day of the tickets are used. The folks on the phone/at the hotel can’t do a lot with tickets—you’re looking at a stop at Guest Services inside the park. They’re very friendly and helpful, but I haven’t met a kid who’s interested in standing in a line that doesn’t end in a ride or a character meet! You can buy a single day ticket, but you’ll miss out on the multiday discount.
