LaGrange Mountain has no shortage of history. Or ghost stories. 👀

In 1830, LaGrange College opened here as Alabama’s first state-chartered college. The school later moved to Florence and eventually became the University of North Alabama. A military academy took its place on the mountain, but on April 28, 1863, Union troops burned the academy and many of the community’s homes and businesses.

The buildings are gone. The stories have stayed.

For years, tales of unexplained sounds and sightings around the old college grounds and nearby cemetery have been part of the mountain’s local lore. Believe them or not, they make for an interesting ride after dark. 👻

The Haunted Hayride at LaGrange College Site Park continues October 23, 24, 30 and 31, starting at 7 p.m. each night.

Proceeds benefit the White Oak Volunteer Fire Department and the LaGrange Living Historical Association.

Some sightings stay with you. 🦅

This bald eagle was photographed near Riverton Rose Trail. With fall and winter bringing more eagle sightings to the Tennessee Valley, it’s a good time to slow down and keep an eye on the sky.

Coldwater Founders’ Day is this Saturday, October 24, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Coldwater Stage Coach Stop in Tuscumbia! 🍂

There will be live music, crafts, living history demonstrations, and tours of the log cabin, along with chicken stew, baked goods, and books by local historians for sale.

It’s free and open to everyone. Stop by at 300 N. Dickson Street, across from the Police Station. We hope to see you there!

Classic cars meet classic sounds! 🎶 We loved helping plan the Shoals day trip for the Cadillac & LaSalle Club’s National Driving Tour, hosted by the Peach State Cadillac Club. Their visit included stops at FAME Recording Studios & Publishing Co., Muscle Shoals Sound Studio, and Cypress Moon Studios. These beauties looked right at home! Thanks for cruising our way!
