Somewhere in your kitchen right now there's a paper bag of potatoes, and today is their day. August 19 is National Potato Day, set in the middle of digging season on purpose.

The old almanacs took potatoes seriously. Plant on Good Friday, the rule went, though the potato never checked a calendar. Hill the soil up over the stems twice a summer, and the buried stems will set more tubers. Dig on a dry day and let them cure in the shade, never the sun.

The sun is the one rule that still matters tonight. A potato left in the light turns green, and that green is your signal the bitter compound solanine is building underneath. Old-timers kept them in the root cellar for a reason.

Check the bag. If anybody's gone green, the compost gets a holiday too. 🥔

Due to the tragic events in Twin Falls on August 1st, the Twin Falls Visitor Center will be closed on Sunday, August 2nd and Monday, August 3rd. This closure includes the parking lot, picnic areas, and car charging stations. Members of the public are asked to avoid the area until further notice.

The Twin Falls Area Chamber of Commerce is cooperating with law enforcement to support their investigation.

Our deepest sympathy lies with the victims, their families, and those who experienced the terror of today’s shooting. Words cannot express our gratitude to the police, firefighters, and emergency medical personnel serving Twin Falls and the neighboring agencies who quickly responded in support. Thank you also to the individuals who bravely provided aid and comfort to those in need. We appreciate the outpouring of love and concern shown for the visitors, volunteers, and staff of the Chamber.

🇺🇸 A Powerful Tribute Over the Snake River Canyon 🇺🇸

The Magic Valley 9/11 Memorial Flag is once again flying high over the Snake River Canyon—a breathtaking sight and a moving reminder of the lives lost on September 11, 2001.
Measuring an incredible 150 feet long, with 5-foot-tall stars, this magnificent flag is raised each year by a dedicated group of volunteers whose commitment ensures we never forget.
