Our rods offer perhaps the finest experience a fly fisher can have by replicating what are considered to be the top ten tapers ever conceived and crafted in the history of bamboo rod making. Now you can own a new

bamboo rod accurately recreated from the original vintage manufacturer's specifications. Currently we offer eight different rods, each with its own unique characteristics. The rods these replicate are considered by anglers to be in the top ten of all bamboo rods ever made. Originals of these rods in good condition currently sell for $3,500 to beyond $5,000. Restoration & Repair

In addition to crafting new fly rods, Top Ten Tapers offers restoration services for any bamboo fly rod that needs repair. From repairing a broken rod to restoring a vintage rod or family heirloom, we can work with you to determine the options for your particular situation.

"I read a lot about people fishing the great rivers of this country. Almost all of them seem to be accomplished folks that have achieved such wealth that they are able to pursue their fishing passions as if it were a way of life. Sorry, but I’m not one of them. I dream of fishing all the famous bamboo rods regaled in history but alas I’m not in they’re monetary class. I make up for it with building my own rods based on famous tapers and frankly I feel I have an advantage over them in that I can get the same thrill for less money. There’s a special kind of pride in landing a fish with a rod you built yourself. Thank you for supplying the blanks that allow me to do so. It’s been quite a nice pleasure."

Dale and Mike stopped by the store about 6 weeks ago and each bought a bamboo fly rod blank. They finished these blanks in Mike's basement. This is Dale showing off the 4 weight rod he finished. He did a really good job. Yes we met in a snow storm. By the time Dale showed me his rod, Mike had caught two good sized steelhead on his 6 weight bamboo fly rod.

Top Ten Tapers is eco-friendly. Insofar as possible, Top Ten Tapers makes most of their own wooden reel seats. We purchase the wood for the inserts from Metro Hardwoods, an urban sawmill located in Cleveland, Ohio. They take old city trees normally headed for mulching and shredding, and turn them into quality kiln-dried hardwood for uses ranging from fencing to furniture to beautiful fly rod reel inserts. They are great people to deal with. We enjoy visiting their warehouse (see images) and selecting wood with the most unique and interesting grain structure and colors.

Ben bought a 3 weight 7 foot bamboo rod and the same day he picked it up, caught two crappies with it, Ben lives in northcentral Ohio. One 13 inches and the other 13.25" Way to go Ben!
