Will you say ?

Today, Tybee Island is joining American Coastal Coalition members across the country to launch the 2026 campaign, to demonstrate public support for America's beaches.

Coastal communities deserve a unified voice. 129 million Americans live within 50 miles of the coast. Our beaches protect communities from storms, power local economies and ecosystems, and belong to all of us.

All summer long, we're making sure Congress hears us loud and clear. We will be campaigning around the issues that matter most: economic & environmental impact, storm protection, community highlights, and direct calls to action for you and our representatives in Congress.

Love your beach? Help us save the shore. Find more info American Coastal Coalition or at www.americancoastalcoalition.org/yestobeaches2026.

***Slow Down to Protect Diamondback Terrapins this Nesting Season***

Tybee Island and our surrounding waters benefit from rich biodiversity, with many plant and wildlife inhabitants. Our beaches and bluffs are an annual nesting destination for several turtle species, some of which are vulnerable due to habitat loss, road mortality, and other human-made and environmental threats. One such species that we implore community members and summer guests to look out for is the diamondback terrapin.

An annual Tybee tradition is fast approaching, and it’s a special opportunity to get super soaked with community members from every corner of the island. What started almost forty years ago as a team rivalry between softball players has since grown to become the wettest, wildest water fight in the region. The Tybee Island Beach Bum Parade is a local parade, made all the more splash-tacular with water guns! This year’s parade is set for Friday, May 15 at 6:30 p.m. and you won’t want to miss it!

🌊🐢 Help us protect our Tybee Sea Turtles, help educate others! Many people who visit Tybee are unaware of basic sea turtle friendly habits. Help us help turtles by sharing what you've learned so that we can all keep turtles coming back to Tybee. 🐢🌊

📢 The following information is from the Tybee Sea Turtle Project, a conservation initiative of the Tybee Island Marine Science Center:

👫 Volunteers will be out at dawn to walk the beach every single day, looking for signs of nesting. Here are some reminders for the season -

🥚 If you spot any sea turtle activity including a mom or sea turtle tracks, leave it alone! Volunteers need all the field signs to locate the eggs, so even well-intentioned marking of the crawl or body pit can make that impossible for us. Feel free to stay by it and wait on us, but leave it alone.

🌑 The beaches need to be dark, flat, and quiet. No lights, no sand castles left overnight, no big holes left behind, no tents and chairs as obstacles.
