We are right in the thick of National Safety Month, and since it's a quiet mid-week Wednesday, it’s the perfect time to do a quick status check on your rig.

When we’re caught up in the excitement of weekend getaways, it’s easy to overlook the safety gear keeping us secure behind the scenes.

Before you hitch up for your next summer adventure, take 10 minutes today to check these three "hidden" safety essentials:

🔋 The Detector Test: Push the test buttons on your smoke, carbon monoxide, and propane detectors. If you can't remember the last time you changed the batteries, today is the day!

Before heading out on the water, always let family or friends know where you’re going and when you plan to return (just in case). And while you’re on the water, remember: just like driving, never boat under the influence, and always pay attention to your surroundings.

As the boat operator, you’re responsible not only for your own safety, but for the safety of everyone around you. Safe boating is a shared responsibility, and mariners should always look out for one another.
