To enter St. Stanislaus Kostka Church is to be transported back in time to Eastern-Europe and to catch a glimpse of a heavenly future. The twin-towered church was built over a century ago by young Polish immigrants who came to Adams, MA, to work in the textile mills. Most came as unmarried teenagers. They met their spouses here and started families. This church was the center of their community. They lived on the streets radiating from it, and many walked past it on their way to work.
In the Eastern European tradition, the images in the church are designed to be windows into heaven. The walls, ceilings, and altars are crowed with saints and angels, heaven’s inhabitants. Statues, paintings, mosaics, a fresco, and stained glass depict 42 saints and 61 angels. Notice the number of women saints represented in stained glass.
