The best family journeys give everyone a story to tell.

That is one of the reasons I love Tauck for families who want to be active, curious, and completely immersed in the destination together.

Their Blue Danube: Family Riverboat Adventure turns eight days through Germany, Austria, Slovakia, and Hungary into much more than a river cruise. Families can explore Schönbrunn Palace, bike along the Danube, discover Schloss Hellbrunn, enjoy medieval fun at Devin Castle, and share a special evening of dinner, music, and dancing in a Viennese palace.

Or head west for Wonders of the Canadian Rockies, with stays at iconic Fairmont properties, hiking around Lake Louise and Maligne Canyon, an Ice Explorer journey onto the Athabasca Glacier, rafting, biking, and a mountaintop farewell after the Banff Gondola.

Different journeys. Same idea.

Give families extraordinary places to discover — and enough shared experiences to keep talking about them long after everyone is home.

One of my favorite things about traveling with children is watching a familiar destination become completely new again.

That is exactly why I love the approach of Family Twist.

In Florence, three days might combine private city highlights and visits to the Accademia and Uffizi with a hands-on gold-leaf painting workshop — complete with a creation to bring home — and time exploring the Galileo Museum.

In Venice, their Life in a Palazzo experience brings the city to life through a private boat journey past the Doge’s Palace and along the Grand Canal, a guided visit inside the palace, a Rialto Market food experience, and even a lesson in rowing a gondola.

This is what great family travel should do.

It should introduce children to art, history, food, and culture without ever making the experience feel like school.

And ideally, the adults are having just as much fun.

When I think about family travel done exceptionally well, Abercrombie & Kent is always part of the conversation.

What I love is the ability to create journeys that feel sophisticated for adults while still giving younger travelers something genuinely exciting to connect with.

Their Japan for All Ages journey might include Tokyo, Mount Fuji, Hiroshima, and Kyoto, with experiences ranging from sushi-making and a sumo stable visit to pop-culture districts, kimono, taiko drumming, and dinner hosted by a geiko.

Then there is the Kenya Family Safari, combining Nairobi, Mount Kenya, Lewa, and the Maasai Mara with extraordinary wildlife, black rhinos, elephants, and landscapes children may have only seen in books.

This is family travel with substance.

The hotels matter. The guides matter. The access matters.

But what I love most is watching different generations become fascinated by the same place at the same time.

For complex luxury travel, the right partner behind the scenes makes all the difference. That is why I love working with Ultimate Jet Vacations on behalf of my clients.

Their high-touch concierge support, special arrangements, and attention to detail help me create seamless, elevated journeys from start to finish — whether that means the Maldives, the South Pacific (that's me at the Four Seasons Bora Bora in 2016), South America, Europe, the Caribbean, Africa, or somewhere completely unexpected.

Private villas. Five-star resorts. Custom itineraries. VIP amenities. Thoughtful touches that make a journey feel personal rather than packaged.

For my clients, the goal is always the same: travel that feels effortless, polished, and entirely their own. And for me, having trusted partners around the world means I can focus on what matters most — understanding exactly how my clients want to travel and making sure every detail reflects that.

This is where precision meets personalization.

There is luxury at sea — and then there is That Crystal Feeling.

It is your butler pouring ch*****ne while your luggage quietly disappears into the closet. Dinner at Umi Uma by Nobu Matsuhisa, the only Nobu restaurant at sea. A show after dinner, a favorite drink waiting at the bar, and crew members who somehow remember your name before you expect them to.

It is space, service, and the rare pleasure of having nowhere you need to be except exactly where you are. Crystal continues to set an extraordinary standard aboard Crystal Serenity and Crystal Symphony, and the story is getting even more exciting with the arrival of the new Crystal Grace in May 2028. Crystal was also named the No. 1 Midsize-Ship Ocean Cruise Line in the Travel + Leisure World’s Best Awards 2026 for the second consecutive year.

And right now, there is an especially compelling reason to plan ahead: save up to $5,000 per guest room or suite, plus receive $500 in onboard credit on more than 200 cruises worldwide.

For travelers who value intuitive service, beautiful surroundings, exceptional dining, and the luxury of having every detail handled beautifully, Crystal is one I would absolutely have on the list.

NEW YEAR’S EVE IN MADRID — Done Properly...

If you are going to cross the Atlantic for New Year’s Eve, make it count.

Four Seasons Hotel Madrid has just unveiled its December 31 celebration, and this is exactly the kind of event I love building a trip around: an elegant w**e-paired gala dinner, Spain’s traditional midnight grapes, Krug at midnight, and the option to keep the evening going until 4 a.m. with a premium open bar.

My Affluent Passport version would make it even more special: four nights in Madrid, the gala, private art touring, a chauffeured countryside excursion, beautiful lunches, and enough unstructured time to actually enjoy the city.

For stylish couples or adult families who want Europe at its most festive — without needing skis — Madrid may be the place to welcome 2027.

For golfers who want more from a trip than a string of tee times, this is one to put on the radar.

Azamara is introducing a new collection of golf-focused voyages for 2027 and 2028, pairing destination-rich cruising with opportunities to play along the way.

A few departures that immediately caught my attention:

Pacific Coast | May 17–24, 2027 aboard Azamara Quest
Vietnam & Thailand | October 3–16, 2027 aboard Azamara Pursuit
Australia & New Zealand | January 5–21, 2028 aboard Azamara Pursuit

What I especially like is that these experiences are not only for hard-core golfers. Selected European sailings offer both a more traditional walking-oriented option and a more relaxed, cart-friendly approach, making them appealing for couples or friends with different playing styles.

For Southeast Asia, I would take it one step further and build in a polished Singapore stay before or after the voyage, with additional golf arranged separately.

Because the best golf trips should be about far more than the scorecard.

Istanbul: A Stay I Will Never Forget...

Some hotels make you feel pampered. Çırağan Palace Kempinski Istanbul made me feel like royalty.

I stayed on the palace side, and there was something unforgettable about waking up in a former Ottoman palace on the Bosphorus, surrounded by history, grandeur, and one of the world’s most fascinating cities just outside the door.

Istanbul itself is extraordinary because it never feels like just one thing. Europe and Asia. Palaces and bazaars. Rooftop restaurants and centuries-old mosques. Boats moving along the Bosphorus while the city seems to unfold in every direction.

But staying at Çırağan Palace gave the entire trip another layer. It reminded me how much the right hotel can influence the way you experience a destination.

Sometimes you visit a city. And sometimes, for a few days, you get to feel like you belong to its history.

Two Hotels I Love: Montage Deer Valley + Rosewood Mandarina

There are hotels I recommend because they are excellent. And then there are hotels I love because the setting, service, and experience make me want to build an entire trip around them.

Montage Deer Valley (pictured) is one of those mountain resorts that gets the balance exactly right. You have true ski-in/ski-out access in winter, beautiful outdoor experiences in summer, an exceptional spa, wonderful dining, and Park City just minutes away. It feels polished without ever losing the warmth that makes a mountain escape so appealing.

Rosewood Mandarina, on Mexico’s Riviera Nayarit, offers something completely different. Set between rainforest, mountains, and the Pacific, it feels immersed in nature while still delivering the privacy, service, dining, wellness, and sense of place I expect from a truly exceptional resort.

One is alpine. One is tropical. Both make the hotel part of the reason for going.

Two Events Worth Traveling For: Aspen Food & W**e + Cannes Film Festival

Certain events are worth adding to an itinerary. Others deserve to become the itinerary.

The FOOD & W**E Classic in Aspen, June 18–20, 2027, is one of those weekends where the destination and the event work beautifully together. World-class chefs, w**e and spirits tastings, cooking demonstrations, extraordinary dinners, and that relaxed Aspen summer atmosphere make it a wonderful excuse to experience the mountains without a pair of skis in sight.

Then there is the Cannes Film Festival (pictured), returning May 11–22, 2027 for its 80th edition. Cannes during the festival is a completely different destination — glamorous, energetic, international, and filled with the kind of dinners, parties, hotels, yachts, and people-watching that make the Riviera feel electric.

These are the trips where the right hotel, the right table, transportation, access, and timing matter immensely.

Being there is only the beginning. Experiencing it beautifully is the point.
