Hi my name is Aaron and I run and operate Nature Nerd Expeditions. It is a free tour service in SE Portland providing nature education to all who seek it!

Times have been tough and I want everyone to see the benefits Nature can give us. About me:
I am a nature educator with the city of Hillsboro going on 7 years now and have a total of 23 years naturalist experience. I have a B.S. degree in Zoology from TESC with a focus on Ornithology (study of birds) and was lucky enough to work on some research projects in some pretty cool areas before moving to Portland. I am also an amateur Wildlife Photographer, check out my photos of those cool places along with weekly nature facts on here and Instagram .

Hi everyone, I hope you are enjoying the rest of your summer! Just a reminder there will be no nature walk this month. I hope you can all get out and walk somewhere you love. The changing of the seasons is something spectacular to behold and many living things are out and about to prepare for winter.

Here are a few pictures from Nashville, Tennessee, it's my first time here and first time east of the Mississippi. I've gotten 4 new birds added to my life list (lifers) 1. Eastern Bluebird 2. Chimney Swift 3. Tufted Titmouse and 4. Brown Thrasher!

I look forward to seeing you all again in February for our first guided Nature Walk of 2027!

Thanks to everyone who braved the rain today! We had a nice relaxing walk in the rain, and saw 20 species of birds, a Buck Black-tailed Deer, multiple Common Carp, a Muskrat and lots of early fall mushrooms including these Orange polypores (chicken of the woods)

Come join me for another Free first of the month Nature Walk series. It's going to be a beautiful day out on Sunday and right after the walk make sure to check out SUNDAE IN THE PARK! S.M.I.L.E.s Free Sellwood/Moreland celebration in Sellwood Park.

There will be free ice cream, snack bar, loads of local organizations including the Friends of Oaks Bottom (I'll be at there booth all day!) and plenty of games and family fun. Come join us for a FREE Sunday of fun!

Happy 4th Everyone!

This year I want to celebrate the indigenous peoples of this land and the land itself. We are one of the most diverse and beautiful lands on earth and historically the PNW was the most diverse and populated area of Native humans anywhere in North America. May your cultures and stewardship of this great land live on and prosper.

Tomorrow on the Free Guided Nature Walk I want to talk about our native people and their amazing connection to the land, our historic US management practices and how the Trump administration today is currently destroying our public lands future.

Free Guided walk tomorrow! Come join us at 10am at the bluff trailhead in Sellwood Park next to the main parking lot.

I was in the gorge today for a tour, quite the site today. Beautiful mix of pouring rain and sunshine, everything was steaming, dripping and evaporating. Latourell Falls - my favorite falls in the Gorge.

Global Big Day is May 9th!

Join me for the biggest birding day of the year at Tualatin Hills Nature Park this Saturday evening 5/9.

Free Tabling event with specimens and live counts from around the world. 3pm to 6pm

Free Guided Bird walk 6pm to 7pm

Table event and walk start outside the Nature Center! Hope to see you there!
