Important Update for Travelers to Italy

With deep sadness, we join the world in mourning the passing of Pope Francis overnight. As the spiritual leader of the Catholic church, his death marks a historic and solemn time for the Vatican and the global community. Over the next 40 days, Rome—especially Vatican City—will become a center of pilgrimage, mourning, and major ceremonial events.

If you have upcoming travel plans to Italy, particularly Rome, you can expect changes in crowd levels, access to certain sites, security procedures, and transportation logistics. This is on top of the already 30+ million visitors expected this year for the Jubilee celebration. We are already working closely with our partners on the ground to stay informed and ensure our travelers are well-prepared, supported, and able to adjust plans as needed with care and flexibility.

One month. Endless memories.

Last year, we spent an unforgettable month in Italy with a highlight being the Italian coastline—and Santa Margherita Ligure quickly stole our hearts. This charming seaside town became our home base for discovering two iconic gems: Portofino and Cinque Terre.

Mornings started with cappuccinos by the harbor, afternoons were spent wandering pastel-lined villages, and evenings brought Aperol Spritzes with a view. Santa Margherita gave us the best of both worlds—authentic Italian charm and easy access to some of Italy’s most breathtaking coastal spots.
