Bad weather today, so figured I’d post a race recap from Tracy and my latest triathlon event. Friday, May 16 we headed out to Chattanooga, Tennessee to race Ironman 70.3 Chattanooga. It was pretty windy that weekend up here, so we didn’t miss much fishing around the sea bass opener. Drove through some crap weather heading down. Torrential rain, thunderstorms. Our friends and were also heading down by plane, but their flight got canceled due to bad weather and tech problems at PHL! Bummer!! Another bummer….due to excessive rain, the river flow was to be too high on race day, so the 1.2 mile swim was cancelled. Another bummer! Oh well, keep moving forward! Got checked in Saturday, and Sunday was race day. Cloudy, light winds to start the bike. 56 miles beginning in Tennessee and heading into Georgia for the majority of the course. Beautiful country…rolling hills with a couple steep climbs, but awesome descents that felt like a video game at 40mph! Tracy and I both finished with huge personal best bike splits. 2hr and 47 for her and 2hr 42 for me. Both averaging well over 20mph. The sun was out for the half marathon run and the heat was on. This is where Tracy really shines, and she had yet another solid half marathon split at 1hr 56. With her transition from bike to run, a total time of 4hr 47. Incredible! She’s a freak athlete and every time we race I have my hands more than full trying to keep up!! After going hard on the bike, I just wanted to survive the run efficiently. Not my best half marathon, but I’ll take it at 2hr 21 for a total time of 5hr 7! I love the swim portion, so bummed it was canceled. Confident I could’ve done the swim and T1 in under 40 minutes which would’ve gotten me sub 6 hour for a 70.3. Unofficial, so means we have to do another! The following weekend and her boyfriend both competed in sprint distance at Jersey Genesis in Port Republic. Another great race with Kaitlyn winning her age group and Travis taking 2nd in his. Next up…Escape the Cape sprint distance!
