As my wife and I were returning from an errand this am we spotted a Zone-tailed Hawk soaring above the post office in Sandia Park.

In lieu of our own photo I am attaching an image from (copyright) Brian K. Wheeler and William S. Clark. Their book A Photographic Guide to North American RAPTORs is an excellent field guide to hawks.

My wife and I were too excited to get a picture of this siting. 🤪

It’s nice to see the Sandia Mountain range being utilized for migration.

I am sitting in the shade at Heron Lake State Park listening to: Black headed Grosbeak, Spotted Towhee, Woodhouse Jay, Mountain Chickadee, Blue Gray Gnatcatcher, Bullock’s Oriole, White breasted Nuthatch, Ash Throated Flycatcher… This am I awoke in the tent to a distant bugeling Elk, & Great Blue Heron squawking.

I have been honored to receive the updated and soon to be available Lowa Renegade Evo GTX Boots. I wore them on a hike in the Sandia Mountains to soak up the autumn colors. The boot is so comfortable they feel already broken in. The tread grips hard on otherwise slippery rocky declines. The toe box is roomy and they are attractive.
