If Mexico is on your family’s travel calendar, here’s something you’ll want to know!
Mexico has approved new legislation that would require hotels and other tourist accommodations to verify that adults traveling with children under 18 are their parents, legal guardians, or otherwise legally authorized to accompany them.
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR YOUR FAMILY?
•The proposed requirements would apply nationwide, including Cancun, Riviera Maya, Cabo, and other popular Mexican destinations.
•As of October 12, 2026, the legislation is awaiting the next steps before becoming law. The official effective date and specific documentation requirements have not been confirmed.
What should you bring just in case??
While we await official guidance, I recommend considering the following precautions:
•Copies of your children’s birth certificates
•Custody or guardianship documents, if applicable
•A notarized parental consent letter if a child is traveling with grandparents, other relatives, family friends, or without one or both parents

Do not rely solely on social media or third-party summaries.
THE BOTTOM LINE: Don’t panic or cancel those vacation plans! This is simply something families and travel advisors should be aware of as the legislation progresses.
