--- NEWS RELEASE ---From the Town of Hilton Head
With the National Weather Service tracking a winter weather event that will impact Beaufort County and the Town of Hilton Head Island, our first priority is the safety of our residents, visitors, and employees.
What we know:
The NWS has issued a winter storm watch advisory for Beaufort County from Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday morning. Our area is likely to see a heavy mix of sleet and snow on surfaces, pathways, and roads.
The Town of Hilton Head Island administrative offices will close at noon on Tuesday, Jan. 21, and remain closed on Wednesday, Jan. 22. We anticipate reopening for normal business hours on Thursday and will provide updates to that schedule or any additional guidance tomorrow afternoon.
The Town's emergency services will remain operational during this weather event.
Beginning Tuesday afternoon and into Wednesday evening, below-freezing temperatures, snow, and sleet will result in hazardous travel conditions, especially on bridges and overpasses.

Town safety precautions and preparations:
· Our Town Staff are turning off all water at our park facilities today to prevent and/or mitigate any damage caused by freezing temperatures. This means that no running water will be available in park restrooms, showers, or water fountains. Although restrooms will be closed, parks and beaches will remain open. Water service will be restored, and restrooms will be reopened as soon as possible when temperatures allow. We appreciate your understanding.
· Beginning today, a warming shelter at Christ Lutheran Church, 829 William Hilton Parkway, will serve community members from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning.
· Stay Home: If you don’t need to leave home, please stay there. When the weather arrives, road conditions could deteriorate quickly, increasing the chance of car crashes or other personal injuries.
· Wear Warm Clothing: Dress in layers, wear a hat, and protect exposed skin with gloves and scarves.
· Protect Pets: Bring pets indoors and provide warm clothing for your pet if going for a walk. If it’s too cold for you, it’s too cold for them.
· Prepare Home: Insulate outdoor pipes and let indoor faucets drip to prevent freezing. Seal Draft windows and doors to keep heat in. Check your heating system and replace filters if needed.
· Protect Plants: Move potted plants inside or cover them to protect them from the cold.
