Disney parks or Disney cruise - which should your family do first?

Coming off our park trip I keep getting this question and I want to give my honest answer.

For families who have never done Disney at all, I usually recommend starting with the parks. There is something about Cinderella Castle in person for the first time that sets the tone for everything else.

For families who have already done the parks once or twice, a Disney cruise is often the better next step. It is a different pace, a different kind of magic, and it does not feel repetitive the way a second park trip sometimes can.

There is no wrong order. But if you are trying to decide what is next for your family, that is generally how I think about it.

One Animal Kingdom tip that I love to share:

First, a side note. A lot of people say Animal Kingdom is a half day park. I can't necessarily argue that fact with you since a good portion of it is closed for refurbishment. However, we were there for about 6 hours, had Multi Pass and Single Pass and still didn't get everything done.

We got there a little later than I would normally because we had Lightning Lanes. Our first pass was for Kilimanjaro Safaris and we had the most amazing safari! The animals were active, the light was perfect, and we got to see the baby (well, she isn't really a baby anymore) elephant!

It wasn't too hot out yet so the animals weren't all taking refuge in the shade like they do in the afternoon. So, take my advice and make sure you ride the safari earlier in the day!

Fresh notes from four parks in four days!

I am back from Walt Disney World after full park days at EPCOT, Magic Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, and a partial day at Animal Kingdom over four straight days.

It was SO hot. There were heat warnings every day. But we still had fun! This is a major downfall of visiting Florida in the summer, but there are definitely ways to make it work for your family if that is the best time for you to travel. I have lots of tips to share!

This is exactly the kind of firsthand, current information I believe makes the biggest difference when planning a trip. Not what a website says. What I actually experienced last week.

Back from Walt Disney World with fresh notes for your family!

We got home from Walt Disney World last night after four days in the parks with my daughters.

EPCOT, Magic Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom. All four parks in four days, which is aggressive, especially in the heat, but gives me exactly what I need to give you better advice.

I have notes on crowd patterns, ride wait times, dining experiences, what surprised me, and what has changed since our last visit.

If your family is planning a Walt Disney World trip for the rest of 2026 or 2027, this week is a great time to reach out. The information I bring back from trips like this is the most useful thing I can offer you and I am ready to put it to work.

Animal Kingdom - the most underestimated park at Walt Disney World

Animal Kingdom is the park I have to advocate for most often when families are planning their Walt Disney World itinerary.

Most families assume it is a half-day park. It is not, and that misconception leads to rushed visits that do not do it justice. Even with part of it closed right now, there are still plenty of things to do!

Pandora alone deserves a full morning. Avatar Flight of Passage is one of the most technically impressive attractions ever built and the queue itself is worth seeing. Na'vi River Journey is beautiful in a way that is easy to underestimate until you are on it.

Kilimanjaro Safaris in the first hour after the park opens is genuinely one of the best experiences at all of Walt Disney World, not just Animal Kingdom. The animals are active, the light is good, and the crowds have not yet found their way there.

Do you have any Bluey fans in your family? You can now meet Bluey and Bingo at the Conservation Station!

We are wrapping up our trip here today and I always leave this park wishing we had more time.
