Disneyland has something Walt Disney World will never be able to replicate and most people do not talk about it enough.

Walt Disney actually walked those streets.

He ate at those restaurants. He stood in those queues and watched families experience his park and went back to his office and made changes based on what he saw.

When you walk down Main Street USA at Disneyland you are walking somewhere that genuinely mattered to the person who built it. You feel that.

Walt Disney World is bigger and newer and has more of everything. But Disneyland has a soul that only comes from being the original.

The 70th anniversary celebration is running through August 9. If you have never been, that is your window.

Save this and send me a message when you are ready to plan it. Link in bio.

End of May Would You Rather. Answer all four in the comments.

A week at Walt Disney World with perfect weather and no crowds OR a 7-night cruise with your favorite people and no agenda?

A brand new destination your family has never been to OR back to the place you love most?

Book now and figure out the details later OR plan everything before you commit?

One big trip per year OR two or three smaller ones?

How you answer these tells me a lot about the kind of trip your family actually needs.

Drop your answers below and I will tell you what I think fits your family best.

The Thing I Notice at Every Resort

Every time I visit a new resort I pay attention to one thing most guests never think about.

How the staff interacts with kids.

Not the kids club staff. Every staff member.

The resorts that get it right are the ones where a housekeeper stops to say good morning to your kid and actually waits for an answer. Where the server at breakfast remembers what your child ordered yesterday.

That is the difference between a good resort and a great one.

And it is something you can only know if you have actually been there.

Save this if you are in the middle of researching resorts right now. It is the question worth asking before you book.

For Americans traveling abroad for a summer vacation, keep these tips in mind!
✅ Make sure your passport isn’t about to expire (some countries require it to be valid for six months beyond your trip).
✅Check local laws and requirements at travel.state.gov/destination.
✅ Sign up for STEP at step.state.gov.
❌ Do NOT travel anywhere with a Level 4 Travel Advisory for any reason.
❌ Do NOT accept drinks from strangers.
❌ Do NOT break local laws.
❌ Do NOT place your phone or purse on the table or on the back of chairs at restaurants.
❌ Do NOT ignore local rip tide warnings or swim in undesignated areas.

Nobody tells you that traveling with teenagers is actually really fun.

Everyone warns you about the attitudes and the eye rolls. And yes, some of that is real.

But somewhere around 13 or 14 they become genuinely interesting travel companions. They notice things. They have opinions worth hearing. They want to try the food and explore the port and stay up for the fireworks instead of falling asleep at dinner.

My daughters are 17 and 14 and some of my favorite travel moments from the last few years happened because one of them suggested something I never would have thought to do.

If you are in the thick of the younger years and wondering if family travel gets harder as they get older, in my experience it gets better. Different, but better.

Save this if you needed to hear it today. And drop a comment if you have had the same experience with your own kids.

I promised a Universal Studios Hollywood recap after my trip a couple weeks ago so here it is.

The park is in a really strong place right now. Super Nintendo World is the obvious headliner and it earns the attention. The level of detail in that land is genuinely impressive and the Mario Kart ride holds up completely.

What surprised me most was how well the rest of the park flows around it. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is still one of the best themed areas in any park anywhere. The Studio Tour remains underrated and underutilized by most guests.

What I would tell any family planning a visit: get there at rope drop, go straight to Super Nintendo World and get in line for Bowser's Challenge, then work your way through the Wizarding World before the afternoon crowds build. And DON'T miss the Studio Tour. It takes about 45 minutes but it is a nice sitting break and a very fun and interactive tour.

If Universal Hollywood has been on your list, I am happy to help you plan it. I have fresh eyes on the park and a lot of notes.

My daughters are why I do this.

My oldest daughter turns 17 today and my youngest is 14. They have been on more trips than many adults I know.

Something I have watched happen over the years is that travel gave them a confidence and a curiosity that I do not think they would have developed any other way. They are comfortable in new places. They talk to people they do not know. They adapt when something does not go as planned.

I am not saying travel is the only way to get there. But I am saying it helped.

The thing I did not expect is that as they have gotten older, the trips have gotten more interesting. They have opinions now. Real ones. My oldest has strong feelings about how often she gets to go to Disney. My youngest is pretty much up for anything, including jumping off a tall rock in Anguilla.

In my opinion, if you are raising kids who love to travel, you are doing something right! Do you agree?

Why Universal Hollywood?

Even if this park is smaller than the Orlando versions, there is plenty of fun to be found! There are even some unique rides here that you won't find in Florida. Super Silly Fun Land would be a great place to cool down on a hot day, the Waterworld stunt show was impressive, the Jurassic World ride is similar but different than the Jurassic Park version, and you must not miss the Studio Tour!

If you are planning a southern California vacation, this park is worth checking out! Is it on your list? Comment Hollywood below if it is!

Disneyland vs Walt Disney World: which one is right for your family?

They are genuinely different experiences and the right one depends entirely on your family.

Disneyland: Smaller, more walkable, more intimate. You can do it in 1-2 solid days if you plan well. The history and the original park feel are something Walt Disney World simply cannot replicate.

Walt Disney World: Bigger in every way. More parks, more resorts, more to do. Better for families who want to make a full week of it.

Neither one is better. They are just different. The question is which one fits your family right now.

If you want my honest recommendation based on your kids ages and travel style, click the link in my bio to set up a call with me or fill out the client request form on my website. Happy to help you figure it out.
