Oh sweet Baraka. You were such an incredible ambassador for black rhinos in the wild and it was an absolute privilege of a lifetime to spend time with you during our stay at Ol Pejeta.

Baraka was one of the very first black rhinos ever born on the conservancy. He grew into a strong bull until a clash with another male cost him his right eye and cataracts took the left, leaving him completely blind.

He lived his days out with round the clock care from the most loving and dedicated rangers and vet team, spoiled by visitors bringing his favorite treats.

His name means ‘blessing’ in Swahili. And for us and everyone who met him, that’s exactly what he was. Rest in peace sweet boy and I’m sure you’re wallowing in a mud bath with all your favorite treats around you!

I was lucky enough to cruise along the Danube from Budapest to Bratislava, through Austria and Germany and it was so magical! Especially during the Christmas Markets season!

The last stop on this Alaskan cruise was Ketchikan! Lots of wildlife and the largest salmon spawning area in the US. Hiked a bit in the Tongass National Forest, the largest in the US, and took a boat over to an island where I experienced a DELICIOUS seafood feast!

I did another whale tour in Juneau that encountered the most SPECTACULAR sights of bubble netting feeding and 3 separate breachings! To say this entire trip has been like catching lightning in a bottle or having the stars align (quite literally experienced the partial eclipse over the ocean) is an understatement. Our days have been filled with zero clouds, no fog, not a single drop of rain and temps in the 70’s. Not to mention the boat captain saying she’s only seen a handful of single breaches in her entire career and we had 3!!

Icy Strait was full of humpback and orca whales! A few bears, seals and otters were adorable to watch as well!

Juneau this morning was INCREDIBLE!! Private helicopter ride to a glacier ice field and the weather couldn’t have been more perfect. The ice was stunning!!
