September 17th, I am going in for open heart by pass surgery for Ascending Aortic Aneurism, Valve replacements, Hiatal hernia and some other things. Life's a bitch so live life to the fullest and Love like there's no tomorrow. Love you all.

Lots of great adventures starting September. We will have a guest geologist coming out one Saturday night get together. Bring the rocks you need identified. I would ask we hold the guest list to about 20 people and to donate $10.00 per person for our great friend and geologist Tom Olsen for his travel time and costs involved. A great time will be had by all attendees. Date will be posted this week.

Sept 7th, Saturday we will have a get together to pick up rocks, gems and crystals in the tailings piles at the Chief Silver Mine. Everyone is welcome to bring your kids and attend. 9am until 12 noon. Cost is $15.00 per child or adult collecting. A half mine tour will also be available for an additional $10.00 per person. Sept 15th, Sunday, we will be going on a rock hounding ATV tour. Cost is $80.00 per person in cash. Open to all people. Bring a lunch and drinks. Tour will last 4 hours and we will stop for lunch at the Falls. Put a blanket on the ground, watch and listen to the water from the falls running. So peaceful. We will be stopping in sand washes all over and check for beautiful rocks. Please RSVP to Bob 520-345-4682

September28th, Saturday, we will be going out to a local mine on ATVs to collect WULFENITE. Afterwards we will stop at the Falls for lunch and a break. Starts 9am until 1pm. PLEASE RSVP as we only have 5 ATVs available. Thanks Bob 520-345-4682.

Melissa here. I swear every day on the calendar has a different thing to be celebrated. Accordingly, today is apparently International Friendship Day (which is news to me). Along that vein, the one thing I have come to experience and know about rockhounder women in general, is that y’all are some of the most down to earth and salt of the earth type of people, who I graciously call my friends.

It doesn’t matter your background or current circumstances in life or even your level of experience as a rockhounder - everyone seems to jive well together during our outings or events. We all help out each other when the need arises. Got questions about mineral specimens that you find while out rockhounding with us in Southeastern Arizona? Someone will know something and together we will figure it out. Or, we can just ask Bob! 😆😘

The overall point of this post is that we of Girls Who Rock (including myself, Bob and his lovely bride, Laura and many members) recognize that this group truly does bring like-minded women together in a safe and healthy way, especially at the GWR outings. During various past outings we have had several different GWR attendees travel solely, several hours just to attend an event with us. And we are all honored to have them/you join us!

On that note…we are working behind the scenes to revive this group in time for some rockhounding fun together during the cooler months of the year. (Specifically for here in SE AZ, think mid to late October and onward.)!!!

Keep an eye out for the next GWR adventure in Vail AZ

7 days a week, 365 days a year we give mine and ATV tours. While over 100 degrees outside, the temp in the mine is 60 degrees. I give you a 6 gallon pail, hammers and chisels and you take home what you find or chisel off the walls.

Ladies! Melissa here. 🙂 Since it is now summer in AZ and close to a million degrees outside, rockhounding online has become more my pace of rockhounding as of lately. 🙃😅
Of course there are many different vendors online selling their stuff but this avenue has become deficient in trustworthiness given all of the fraudsters out there. Given that it is hard to know who to truly trust online, I want to share with you a trustworthy seller’s page which is run by people I have personally met and trust (Julez and Lizzie). Their seller’s page could be a way for you to acquire some really beautiful (and sometimes very rare) materials that are already polished into cabochons.
As already stated, Julez and Lizzie are personal friends of the Girls Who Rock founding members. We know that they will treat you right as they offer up some very beautiful materials at very fair prices. (And they ship to your designated address!) EVERYONE IS WELCOME TO COMEE OUT. Now that the weather is better outside, we are going to plan between 2 to 4 events a month from now on. First of all, i would like to thank all the GWR who have participated in the past. These GWR adventures are for girls over 18 who want to make friends with similar interests.

Event #1. SEARCHING FOR GREAT ROCKS ON TOP OF THE CHIEF SILVER MINE. Short mine tour also available. Sunday June 8th 9am until 12 noon. Bring you sun screen, hats and sun glasses, a bucket, hammer and chisel. $20.00 per child under 18 to collet rocks. $10.00 additional for a short mine tour down to 150' Every one is welcome to attend. Children under 18 must be have a parent with them. Tour is $30.00 per person in cash for mine and rockhounding.

Event #2. GO OUT ON THE ATVS TO CHECK THE SAND WASHES FOR ROCKS. Sunday, June 9th, 8am until 2-3pm. We will break for lunch at a beautiful running stream in the middle of the desert. I am posting photos from previous GWR events.
