A treat to see a couple of humpback whales bubble feeding in Port Valdez recently. They lay a curtain of air bubbles parallel to the cliff face then turn and scoop up the trapped baitfish … salmon fry / herring.

Herring have moved into Port Valdez and this pod of Dalls Porpoise takes a break from feeding to run circles around Kiwi Kai. Much to the delight of passengers visiting from Michigan. Hooray for Yoopers! They don’t see this at home.

Wonderful to see the herring return to PWS in strong numbers 35 years after EVOS. Whales, sea lions, porpoise, seals and seabirds all enjoying the abundant feast. The spring herring spawn is one of natures great events.

Spring 2024 operations have started. Come check out the stunning snow covered fjords and waterways of Prince William Sound with Valdez Water Taxi and Charters. Frozen waterfalls and avalanches cascading to the tideline are some of the majestic sights to be seen in the Alaskan spring.
Marine mammals are feasting on herring and migratory shorebirds are arriving daily to gorge themselves on the clouds of salmon fry flushing out of the streams. There’s lots to see.

Salmon. Lots of salmon. Big fish this year. Strong run. Weather not too shabby. Pretty good season so far. 3 more weeks. 🤞🎣
