Day 15, October 24, 2022 (Monday)
Today we drive to the ancient city of Corinth. Corinth was a wealthy city during the time of Paul that dominated the trade in both the Saronic Gulf (to the east) and the Gulf of Corinth (to the west). Paul spent 2 years in Corinth with fellow believers, Aquilla
and Priscilla. Because of the wealth, the city was known as a city of luxury and was known not to be a city of high morals. Paul addressed these issues in his letters to the Christians that lived in Corinth. First we stop at the Corinth Canal. This picturesque
canal began with Nero in AD 67 but was not completed until 19th century! A 2000-year-old dream. This narrow isthmus created a passageway for ships savings hours, if not days, of traveling to the Greek ports. Continue to the ruins of ancient Corinth. The
ancient city includes the Temple of Aphrodite, Temple of Apollo, and Temple of Octavia. You will visit the Roman Forum, the Bema. This is where Paul pleaded his case when the Corinthians hauled him to the Roman Govern Gallio in 52 AD. We see the
Peirene Fountain, the major source of water for Corinth that can still be seen today and was known as a meeting place for the people of Corinth. As you walk the streets of Corinth, you will walk in the footsteps of the Apostle Paul as he shared the Gospel
of Christ. At the Museum of Corinth, we see a number of amazing artifacts, including inscriptions of Gallio and Erastus, both mentioned in the Book of Acts. The Corinthians were known for their potters and many of these pottery remains are in the museum.
