We've been quietly rebuilding something.

A year ago, we launched Explore Poplar Bluff with the idea of creating one place to discover local businesses, events, sales and things happening around our community.

We're getting ready to try something different with it.

No business subscriptions. No paying for placement. No algorithm deciding which local posts you get to see.

Instead, we're building a simple place where local businesses and organizations can maintain their own page and share the same things they're already posting elsewhere — updates, events, sales, specials and announcements.

Post it on Facebook.

Post it on Instagram.

Post it on Explore Poplar Bluff too.

Residents won't need an account just to browse. They'll be able to see what's happening, find events, discover deals and explore local businesses freely. Without the ads, without missing an important update from your favorite business.

We're doing some final testing now, but we'd like to know:

From Poplar Bluff, you’re only about an hour from incredible float destinations like Van Buren and Eminence.

We stopped by Performance Specialties in Poplar Bluff today while looking for help with a small mower engine issue. As you know, the mowing season is fast approaching!

Performance Specialties is an automotive machine shop equipped to service high-performance engines and race-purpose components. Our mower problem was probably one of the smaller things they see, but Dencel was kind enough to pause what he was working on, help us quickly diagnose and repair the issue, and even take a few minutes to show us around the shop.

It’s always impressive to see the level of skill and precision that goes into this kind of work, and it’s another reminder of the specialized talent we have right here in our local businesses.

If you’re working on a performance engine or need machining services, Performance Specialties is definitely a shop worth knowing about.

Highlighting and discovering local businesses like this is exactly what Explore Poplar Bluff is all about.

Poplar Bluff recently appeared on a list from WorldAtlas highlighting some of the safer towns in Missouri for senior living.

While every community always has room to grow and improve, it’s still nice to see positive recognition for our hometown.

Poplar Bluff has many great things to offer — local businesses, parks, history, and a strong community — and it’s worth celebrating those wins when they come along.
