Walking Adventures International

Walking Adventures International Discover the joy of travel on a walking program that exposes you to history, culture, and scenery on all 7 continents

Walking is the oldest form of travel, and we at Walking Adventures soon discovered it is also the purest form of travel. It slows us down and gives our senses a chance to connect with our surroundings. Early on, our travel programs were based exclusively upon 10 kilometer (6.2 mile) trails sponsored by walking clubs affiliated with the International Federation of Popular Sports. These events provi

ded the added dimension of walking with locals - everyday citizens from the host country who love walking and love sharing it with others. As we’ve taken our message of walking blended with motorcoach travel farther afield, we’ve continued to slow our travel pace and look for ever more creative ways to use walks to connect with the culture, history, and scenery of our destination. Most walks in international destinations are planned by WAI staff. These walking adventures generally combine a greater number of shorter walks, still blending them with local points-of-interest and cultural experiences. Walking Adventures International offers an up-close and personal style of travel to more than 60 countries on all 7 continents! We feature 15 different destinations on average per year, offering a different rotation of destinations each year.

The Channel Islands on Foot: Where Britain, France, and the Sea Meet

Our newest story is live, and it follows the Channel Islands the way we love to experience a place: close to the ground, shaped by tide tables, ferry crossings, coastal paths, harbor lanes, and time enough to notice what most travelers pass by.

This journey walks through Jersey, Guernsey, Sark, and Herm, four islands with their own rhythms, histories, and views across the water between Britain and France. From quiet cliff paths and tidal causeways to WWII history, small island roads, and fresh local flavors, it is a trip made for travelers who like their days active, layered, and unhurried.

We’ll be closing registrations soon for our 2026 Channel Islands departure.

What part of the Channel Islands would you be most curious to walk?

Walk Jersey, Guernsey, Sark, and Herm — coast paths between Britain and France, tidal causeways, and quiet lanes most travelers never reach.

There are places in the world that simply make you stop walking for a moment and look.

The Grand Canyon has a way of doing that.

Layer after layer of red rock, endless desert light, and trails that remind us just how small — and lucky — we are to experience landscapes like this on foot. Every turn along the canyon brings a different perspective: changing shadows, quiet overlooks, and the kind of wide-open scenery that stays with you long after the adventure ends.

One of the things we love most about traveling through the American Southwest is how the landscape constantly invites conversation, curiosity, and connection. It’s not just about seeing the canyon — it’s about sharing the experience together, one step at a time.

Thank you to this wonderful WAI group for bringing such a great spirit to the journey through Arizona and the Grand Canyon.

Utah’s Mighty Five gave the WAI group an unforgettable stretch of red rock, wide skies, high desert trails, and shared adventure.

Scott and Kurt wrapped up the journey feeling grateful and very happy with this group. In their own words:

“Utah is a truly special place in this world and you were a wonderful group of travelers to share this special experience with. Thank you for your punctuality, your adventurous spirit, and willingness to trek in heat, cold, high altitude, and challenging trail conditions at times. Well done!”

A beautiful finish to a truly special WAI adventure through Utah. Thank you to our travelers for bringing such good spirit to the journey.

Arizona has a way of making Route 66 feel both playful and timeless.

The groups latest photos take us from Winslow's "Standin' on the Corner" stop to the famous Jackrabbit Trading Post, with its hard-to-miss yellow "Here It Is" sign, and on into the stark beauty of Petrified Forest country. This is the Mother Road at its best: a little music lore, a little roadside whimsy, and a lot of wide-open western sky.

New Mexico brought another terrific stretch of Route 66 character for the WAI group.

Tim's latest photos start in Tucumcari, where the Mother Road still shows off its classic motel signs, roadside architecture, and old highway texture. The Roadrunner Lodge, Motel Safari, and Tucumcari's Route 66 shield all carry that unmistakable mid-century feel that makes this part of the route so memorable.

The batch also continues into Las Vegas, New Mexico, where the historic Plaza Hotel adds another layer of western railroad-era and town-square history to the journey.

The Texas stretch of Route 66 opened wide in canyon country.

Tim's latest photos take us from red-rock walls and broad overlooks to a shaded walk through the canyon, complete with a quiet wildlife sighting along the way. From there, the route swings back into classic Mother Road color at Cadillac Ranch west of Amarillo, where paint-covered cars turn the High Plains into a living Route 66 landmark.

A wonderful Texas contrast: big sky and canyon country, then the bright roadside spirit of Cadillac Ranch.

Photos from Tim along the route.

London in September is a quieter city. The Thames runs gold, the summer rush is gone, and the walking is exactly what our guests come for: cool, gentle, unhurried.

We built this trip around that narrow window. Two WAI guides on every departure. Every hotel booked. Every walk planned. You show up, we take care of the rest.

From $1,995 per person. Two September departures only. Link in Bio.

From her very first WAI tour to the Baltic States in 2007, Jane has been an absolute delight to travel with—cheerful, energetic, and always ready for the next adventure.

She’s joined us on 25 trips so far, and her biggest challenge is choosing a favorite. When we asked her, here’s what she shared:

“The only problem I have is trying to identify my favorite WAI adventure... people ask me this all the time and I'm always stumped because I've enjoyed every one of them. This year's trips to Australia and the Nordic countries were just wonderful. Other standouts include Iceland (in the winter), China, Antarctica (besides the rough Drake Passage!), Wales and Cornwall, and my very first WAI trip in 2007 to the Baltics when I was a really novice traveler. That one worked out so well, I've been traveling with WAI ever since!”

Travelers like Jane are what make WAI special. Thank you for entrusting us with your precious travel adventures—it’s an honor to share these journeys with you.💛

Can’t wait to celebrate with you all in Tucson!
