At dawn on the day we left Lake Bled, the clouds finally lifted and revealing the Pilgrimage Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary on Bled Island amid a blush of early autumn color.

I've been wanting to visit Lake Bled in Slovenia for years, so when I planed this Adriatic Odyssey tour from Venice to Dubrovnik that we are currently on, I made sure to include 2 nights at this incredibly beautiful and interesting lake in the Julian Alps. It is a photographer's paradise with a small island in the lake adorned with a tall church steeple, notoriously surrounded by swirling mists against a backdrop of rolling hillsides rising to mountains behind. Well, as Fate would have it, it rained day and night. I knew the forecast and last evening when we arrived, even though tired from our trip here, I went out in the chilly drizzle at the time of the sunset hoping to capture something at least. It was gloomy and dreary but I saw some brightness in the clouds to the east. I waited, snapping a few mundane images when all of a sudden a warm rosy glow suffused the scene and in that moment I captured this image. Seconds later the clouds closed in and it was gone. But I had my prize! The rain continued all night and poured relentlessly all day today. I feel grateful to have captured this image and even though we leave early tomorrow morning I will sleep tonight dreaming of he next time I will visit and photograph this beautiful place!

Hello Friends,
Due to a medical emergency, I have a last minute cancellation on our Adriatic Odyssey- Venice to Dubrovnik trip (1 or 2 people in 1 double room). The people who had to cancel asked me to try to recover whatever is possible for them, so we are offering this to anyone who can mobilize to arrive Venice, Italy by October 6, 7, or 8. All offers considered.
The trip includes 3 days in Venice, 2 days lake Bled Slovenia, and an 8 day cruise aboard a private yacht along the coast of Croatia through the Dalmatian islands.
