✨ Fun Fact Friday: Venice’s Secret Walkways! ✨

Have you ever noticed those orange wayfinding signs tucked away in our historic neighborhoods? 🕵️‍♂️

They lead to a network of hidden pocket parks and secret pedestrian walkways that cut straight through the blocks, offering a peaceful, shaded shortcut directly to the beach!

The Mastermind Behind the Magic:
In 1926, legendary city planner John Nolen designed the master plan for Venice. He strongly believed that a city should seamlessly connect human beings with nature. To make sure neighborhood residents never felt cut off from the Gulf of Mexico, he drew hidden “greenways” and pocket parks—like Granada, Harbor, Madrid, and Milan Nolen Green—right into the grid!

Almost 100 years later, these secret paths are still open to the public, keeping our town beautifully walkable just as Nolen envisioned.

Celebrate Independence Day the hometown way! Join the City of Venice and Venice MainStreet, Inc. this Saturday, July 4 for a patriotic Community Picnic celebrating both America 250 and the City of Venice's Centennial!

In West Blalock Park from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., enjoy family fun with a DJ, yard games, co****le, giant Connect Four, ladder ball, mini golf, obstacle course, hair tinsel and more!
🍉 Watermelon Eating Contest (All Ages): 11:30 a.m. | Noon | 12:30 p.m. | 1 p.m.
🥔 Potato Sack Races (Ages 4+): 10:30 a.m. | 11:30 a.m. | 12:30 p.m.
💪 Tug-of-War (Ages 4+): 10 a.m. | 11 a.m. | Noon

Inside the Venice Community Center from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., stop by the selfie station, grab a coloring book, hand fans, free face painting, balloon twisting, airbrush tattoos, $2.50 hot dogs and more:
🎭 Venice Gondoliers: 11-11:15 a.m.
🧠 Patriotic Trivia: 11:15-11:40 a.m.
🎩 Uncle Sam Look-Alike: 11:30-11:40 a.m.

Food Truck Row will be serving from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. And the Venice Museum & Archives will be open with special hours from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., featuring a special Centennial exhibit, seasonal displays, and gift shop.
