JERSEY GUMBO COOK OFF & LOUISIANA MUSIC FESTIVAL
to highlight MARDI GRAS IN JULY weekend in SOMERS POINT!!
Monday July 8th 3-11pm
With the distinctive sounds of the world’s most famous Cajun fiddler,
Waylon Thibodeaux, wafting through the air, you’ll be strolling the
tropical grounds of the gorgeous POINT TIKI BAR on the historic Somers
Point bay front & tasting the most delicious gumbo made this side of
the Bayou state.
Starting at 3pm you’ll be able to taste all the gumbo you care to eat from
some of the greatest chefs in South Jersey, including last year’s king gumbo
chef, David Goldstein from the American Culinary Federation, and the most fabulous contenders from Resorts Casino Hotel as well as the phenomenal,
fine dining, field to table restaurant, Smithville Inn.
The strongly flavored and long simmered 2023 people’s choice winning
gumbo from Gregory’s will be right along side the exotic flavors of Chef Niko
of Galloway Casual Dining, and the new contender this year, Louisiana’s
Chef Tyson Merryman from The Tuckahoe Inn.
While enjoying three hours of tasting for only $20 you’ll enjoy the rhythm &
blues sounds from Dan Levin’s New Orleans band and vote for “the people’s choice“ gumbo.
After all the chefs have put their best foot forward, the new gumbo chef
king will be crowned, and Tony Mart’s will present another great show!
One of the stars of Tab Benoit’s internationally famous “ Voice of the Wetlands
Allstars”, Waylon Thibodeaux, will demonstrate in his Cajun way why he is considered one of the best fiddlers in the world. Having performed for over 30 years on Bourbon Street, he was one of the most beloved performers on that infamous street and he will bring Bourbon Street to Bay Avenue!
All night there will be entertainment including a full allstar band with Ben Levin
playing Dr. John, Art Neville and Professor Longhair with South Jersey’s greatest, Howard Isaacson and Bobby Ferguson providing the New Orleans brass.
After all of that Billy Walton & Destinee Monroe will join the party with them
and funk it up with the music of The Neville’s and The Meters and take us
home Mardi Gras style!!!
