Asian elephants are the largest land mammals in Asia and are found in forests, grasslands, and wetlands across South & Southeast Asia. They are smaller than their African relatives and have distinct features such as smaller ears, a more rounded back, and a single finger-like projection on the tip of their trunk. They are classified as Endangered by the IUCN due to habitat loss, human-wildlife conflict, and poaching for ivory and skin. Their population has declined significantly, with estimates of fewer than 50,000 remaining in the wild.
