The Binghamton Society of Model Engineers (BSME) is a club dedicated to promoting the model railroad hobby in Binghamton NY. It was started in March of 1977 in a 20x40 foot room in the American Legion building on 144 Washington street in Binghamton NY. With the original 7 members it took 8 months to remodel, assemble benchwork and put down the main line track work to be able to run a train. The BS
ME was at this location for some time when the club had to move so the railroad was packed up and put in storage for a few years....
The BSME had its 2nd beginning in a classroom of what was once the Our lady of Sorrows school on Main St. The layout underwent lots of changes over the next few years including the addition of a Digitrax system (changed over to the NCE system this year 2022) then in 2010 the BSME became homeless again but after a short search we had a new space....
The 3rd and present location is in the WSKG building at 601 Gates Rd. We currently have 15 members, and all of our members are NMRA (National Model Railroad Association) members .. The BSME is loosely based in the transition era of steam to diesel. The club owns all the rolling stock on the layout but the locomotives are owned by individual members so there are many Northeast Railroad’s represented in our club. The BSME meets every Tuesday night at 6 PM except holidays or bad weather. We always welcome visitors, so stop by and say Hi and enjoy the sights of our railroad. If interested drop us a message on this page so we can help you locate us at the WSKG location.
