Here’s What Couples Are Doing Differently
Your honeymoon doesn’t have to look one particular way. Today’s couples are planning honeymoons around their budget, work schedules, travel goals, and the experience they actually want.
Here are a few trends I’m seeing:
✨ Delayedmoons are becoming more common
Some couples are choosing to wait a few months after the wedding before taking their bigger honeymoon. Financial priorities, limited vacation time, or simply wanting to enjoy the wedding without rushing into another trip can all play a role.
🌴 Minimoons + the big honeymoon
Some couples take a short getaway immediately after the wedding, then plan their longer honeymoon for later. This gives them the best of both worlds: a little escape right away and more time to plan the trip they really want.
🇺🇸🇨🇦 Closer-to-home honeymoons
Domestic U.S. and Canadian destinations are gaining popularity, especially for couples looking for beautiful experiences without the cost or travel time of a long-haul trip.
🌎 Longer honeymoons are still happening
For couples choosing destinations farther from home, two- and even three-week honeymoons are still very much a thing. Think multiple destinations, immersive experiences, and plenty of time to slow down and enjoy the journey.
📅 When should you start planning?
Six to nine months before your wedding is still a great planning window. However, couples are also booking much closer to their wedding date, sometimes only a few months ahead.
💰 What are couples budgeting?
Recent honeymoon surveys put the average honeymoon budget around $5,300 to $6,500, but there is a wide range depending on the destination and travel style.
A general guide:
• $2,500–$4,000: Lower-end honeymoon
• $5,000–$8,000: Mid-range honeymoon
• $8,000–$15,000+: Luxury and extended honeymoons
Lodging can account for roughly 35–50% of the total budget, while flights and transportation can represent another 20–50%.
💍 The biggest takeaway?
There is no “right” honeymoon.
Your honeymoon should fit you as a couple, whether that means an all-inclusive Caribbean escape, a European adventure, a romantic cruise, a U.S. getaway, or a two-week journey through multiple destinations.
