Visit Martha's Vineyard

Visit Martha's Vineyard "If the world was perfect it would be a lot like Martha’s Vineyard." Tom Neal Tacker, author

About an hour's drive from Boston, the island of Martha's Vineyard is a true New England vacation gem. Naturally beautiful with picturesque cliffs, beautiful beaches, rolling hills, and scenic flatlands, the Island is enhanced by warm-to-hot temperatures in the summer, a profusion of color from the diverse tree and bird life in the fall, crisp air and cozy hideaways in the winter, and the blossoming hues of flora in spring.

September on island has a pretty special kind of magic, and it’s even better when your best friend gets to come along!

Just ask Runa, who’s already on the ferry over! Fewer crowds, beautiful late-summer days, plenty of room to explore, and some dog-friendly places to discover.

If you’ve been thinking about an island getaway with your pup, September is a pretty perfect time to go.

Runa says bring the leash. The Vineyard is waiting!

Labor Day may traditionally mark the unofficial close of summer, but Martha’s Vineyard is far from finished.

Make the most of the long weekend with one more beach day, a stroll through town, dinner outdoors, or an afternoon spent enjoying the Island at a slightly slower pace.

It is also a fitting moment to recognize the people whose work keeps Martha’s Vineyard moving all season long, from restaurants, farms, shops, and hotels to ferries, local services, and community organizations. Here’s to a well-earned holiday and plenty more Vineyard season still to come.

There's still plenty to bring home from Martha’s Vineyard markets in September. Late-summer produce, armfuls of flowers, Island-made goods, and the farmers, artists, and makers behind them are all worth one more visit before the seasons turn.

The Chilmark Flea Market continues through September 12, while the Oak Bluffs Open Market carries on into October. And although the Wednesday West Tisbury Farmers Market has wrapped for the season, Saturday markets continue through October 31.

Bring a tote, shop what is still growing, and put a few more dollars directly into the hands of local farmers, food producers, artists, and small businesses.

Menemsha has a rhythm all its own. September suits it especially well. Stop for seafood, wander the harbor, watch the light change over the water, and stay for one of those Menemsha sunsets that never really needs an introduction.

Fresh Morning Glory Farm corn is one of those unmistakable tastes of a Vineyard summer, and the annual Corn Shuck & Shimmy gives it a proper sendoff.

Head to Morning Glory Farm from 5 to 8 pm on September 11 for an evening where summer meets fall, complete with live music, grilled corn, farm-fresh food for sale, corn-inspired baked goods, and plenty of seasonal favorites.

Feeling competitive? The Corn Shucking Competition will put fast hands to the test to see who can claim the title of fastest corn shucker on the Island.
