Lisa and David Smith's birding tour of Maui took them from wetlands at the coast to the very top of the island on Haleakalā Volcano. 🏞️🐦 Along the way there were stilts and coots, herons and nēnē (Hawaiian geese), frigatebirds and ʻiʻiwi. Now that is a FULL day! 🌈☀️

We were in awe of all the thoughtful touches that went into this tour. Our guide Wendy was so knowledgeable and helpful! She had a special bird themed playlist for the trip, and she sent us an incredibly detailed email of every bird we saw on the trip, including a link to a photo album. It was an easy way to spend a day birding on Maui! We would highly recommend this tour for bird lovers.

🌺 Superguide Wendy had a fantastic time hiking with Heidi and Mulu from Portland, OR! 🥾🌤️ Mulu grew up in American Sāmoa, and since both she and Heidi are canoe paddlers—just like Wendy—they shared a beautiful cultural exchange about Polynesian traditions across the Pacific. 🌊🌴

They also soaked in some epic weather and views at Haleakalā National Park. 🌋💚

Huge thanks to Jarrod, Karine, Phil, and Liz for joining our birding adventure—what a fun and international crew to explore with!
Hawaiian stilts, a whole duck family, a rare Black-bellied Plover,—only Phil was there when it popped up, and we didn’t want to scare everyone in the group by yelling.
And we all got eyes on that stunning White-faced Ibis! 🐦💚

If you want a great birding experience on Maui, this is the place to start. Wendy knows the birds, the culture, the language and the island. She leads a very friendly, informative conversation and puts you in the best spots to see the most diverse list of birds. The fact that she also sings to you is just one of the many bonuses. While she can’t guarantee a Short-eared owl, if you don’t see one it won’t be for lack of trying. Mahalo!

Wendy was a fabulous guide. She took us to the road to Hana and for a hike in the Haleakala crater. Both days were great. She knew the local sites to see and places to go for food on the way to Hana and took us on a beautiful hike to a waterfall. The crater hike was truly unique. We highly, highly recommend Wendy for any adventure on Maui.
