Hey there!

I believe in experiences over things, and I’m here to help you make memories at sea. I’m Brenda—a boy mom and girl aunt from Eastern North Carolina with saltwater in my veins and a suitcase always half-packed. Raised on the coast, I’ve been drawn to the sea my whole life, so cruising felt like a natural fit. My first voyage was aboard Disney Cruise Line in 1996, but once I met Royal Caribbean… it was love at first sail. My husband and I started cruising with our boys when they were just three, choosing splash zones and island adventures over toy aisles and clutter. We’ve always believed in prioritizing experiences over things—and cruising has delivered unforgettable memories in every port. A little love today for Adventure of the Seas.

Fun Fact: she was the FIRST Royal ship to return to service after the pandemic, beginning cruises out of Nassau in June of 2021. (I was on one of them!)

She may not be one of Royal Caribbean’s newest ships, but Adventure has a lot going for her. As a Voyager Class ship, she was part of the first generation to introduce the Royal Promenade—still one of my favorite things about this class of ship. There is just something about being able to stroll through the middle of the ship, grab coffee, find a snack, people watch, and feel like there is always something happening.

Built in 2001 and refreshed in 2016 and 2018, Adventure has 14 decks and room for up to about 3,800 guests. She is large enough to offer plenty for families, with waterslides, fun shows, a FlowRider, rock climbing wall, ice show, and mini golf, but she also tends to sail some of the longer and more interesting itineraries that the biggest ships do not always offer.

Adventure was originally scheduled for a full Royal Amplification in 2021, like her sister ships Navigator, Mariner, and Voyager of the Seas, but those plans did not happen because of the pandemic. Even so, she has been well maintained and updated over the years. I do hope she gets her full glam-over soon, because she is a ship with so much potential.

We sailed Adventure in August 2025, and during Captain’s Corner, Captain Jaret Barry shared that Voyager Class ships are his personal favorite from an operational perspective. They have the power, speed, and size to offer more flexibility in where they can travel—and I can absolutely see the appeal.

Adventure is not trying to be an Icon Class ship. She is a different kind of Royal Caribbean cruise: familiar, fun, family-friendly, and often a great fit for travelers who care just as much about the itinerary as the ship itself.

One of the reasons I look closely at what is above, below, and beside a cruise cabin before booking:

See that little window just above the gold awning? That was supposed to be our cabin.

When we booked it, we knew it was above Central Park. Sounds lovely, right? What we did *not* know yet was that the venue directly underneath would be a jazz club.

Can you imagine trying to decide whether to turn in for the night while a saxophone is warming up directly below you?

The ship was new and the venues had not been assigned when we made the reservation, so this was not something we could have caught ahead of time. We ended up upgrading, but it was a very good reminder that cabin location matters just as much as cabin category.

A great price is great…until you realize you booked above the late-night music.

There were entire parts of Icon of the Seas that I never saw.

We did not make it to every restaurant, every bar, every pool, every activity, or every show. And on our Celebrity Beyond sailing, we never even made it to a single show.

I know that sounds a little ridiculous when you have paid for a cruise full of things to do. But honestly? We were busy doing the things that fit *our* vacation that week—being together, letting the boys do their thing, finding good food, taking naps when we needed them, and not running from one scheduled thing to the next just so we could say we did it all.

A ship can have more to offer than you could possibly fit into one sailing. That does not mean you did vacation wrong.

It just means you may have to go back. 😉

A little cruise-planning cautionary tale: do not assume the port parking garage will have plenty of spaces just because it has eight decks!

This was us arriving (finally!) to a parking spot in Celebrity's PortMiami parking deck—after Miami traffic delayed us and after staying in Boynton Beach the night before, so we still had a bit of a drive ahead of us.

By the time we got there, we slowly drove all the way to the roof and there was almost no parking left.

When you are budgeting for a cruise, remember to count the parking cost. But also give yourself plenty of time for the drive, traffic, finding a space, unloading luggage, and getting everyone pointed toward the terminal.

Cruise morning is much more fun when you are excited—not stressed out circling a parking deck wondering if you are about to be out of luck.

Before I started filming cabin tours, I was also searching for hotel rooms near the cruise port.

Not just “is it nice?” but: What does the room actually look like? Is the view worth it? Is there somewhere to sit with coffee while everyone gets ready? And can we relax the night before the cruise instead of worrying about a same-day flight or long drive?

This was our Intracoastal-view balcony from room 627 at the Hilton Fort Lauderdale Marina. Not every pre-cruise hotel needs to be fancy (although it's a plus!), but I do think arriving the day before makes vacation feel like it has already started and I always recommend it.

So yes, I film hotels too—because where you sleep before the ship matters more than people think.

A few teacher workdays and school breaks can make a big difference when you are trying to add a day or two to a cruise without using quite as much vacation time—or dealing with an extra day of missed school.

Sea-day people: are you setting an alarm or sleeping in?

I am usually up early, coffee in hand, while the pool deck is still quiet and the only people around are the ones who had the same idea or are getting their steps in on the track.

It is one of my favorite parts of cruising—watching the sunrise, finding a chair without a single towel claiming it, and having a few peaceful minutes before the waterslides, music, and “Mom, what are we doing?” begin.

Then everyone wakes up, the ship comes alive, and our sea day really starts.

But those early-morning ship moments? Worth getting up for every time.
