It was a great week of fishing on Leech Lake. The big fish and keepers were absolutely on fire with multiple tactics working. Kenkatch Tackle Co. jigs with a crawler or spottail have still been top dawgs. This bite should continue through the month of June. Let me know if you would like to get out! Open dates for June still are the 19th, 23, 24, 25 or 26.

Getting the "kitchen sink" ready for tomorrows trip. Minnows, leeches, crawlers, jigs, plastics, jig raps and maybe even a bobber. Even going to pack the panfish gear. Everything seems to be biting right now in the area. Walleyes, Bass, Panfish, Perch...doesn't matter the flavor, its all in full swing!

Was a great weekend fishing the Leech Lake Walleye Tournament with Bradley Hasse. We came up just a bit short of a win in the end but the memories made were unforgettable, which included an absolute freak fish by Brad on day one. Overall we are happy with our 3rd place finish.

Leech Lake showed itself to all the anglers who fished this week when shes at her best. I dont remember the last tournament I fished where you needed the entire tackle box and every kind of bait possible to keep up with the moods of each area fish that seemed to change by the hour. Thats what made it challenging and fun till the bitter end!

Thank you to all of the sponsors and Leech Lake Area Chamber of Commerce for all their efforts to make this an annual local event that continues to grow!

Water temps climbed all the way to the mid 50s today. Fish are still eating shiners, but leeches and crawlers are starting to play. It looks as though we have turned the corner into a warmer and more stable pattern which should only increase the bite moving forward!

Opening weekend and first trip of the year is in the books from Leech Lake. From what I am seeing there are still fish in spawn mode so paying attention the the smallest details can make or break the day when it comes to putting numbers in the boat. Water temps today were around 45-47 degrees.

Slowly rolling a Kenkatch Tackle Co. 3D eye jig across the bottom in the morning, followed by a more agressive approach with the V2 long shank shiner jig in the afternoons when the water warms a bit have been my go to so far.

Looking forward to this weeks warmup and a great start to the open water season!

Lake Erie. What a BEAST! I entered my 2nd National Walleye Tour tournament with high hopes and dreams of catching 12lb pre spawn walleyes in one of the greatest walleye fisheries in the world. Without any experience on the western basin, that dream soon became a reality of trying to survive through cold, rain, muddy water, navigation and ever changing wind directions every day making any type of pattern difficult each day during practice.

One thing that was always constant and dependable was my JT Outdoor Products Black Reign 7-3 or 7-9 med action capeable of throwing jigs a guy from Leech Lake has little experience with. 1.5oz, 1oz and in "shallow" water 3/4oz jigs were sizes of choice for areas we fished. Black Sheep Outdoors had me rigged and ready helping me with rigging before I left, and emergency questions leading up to game day with anything I broke or needed to fix before game day.

A huge thanks to Zachary Christenson with North Edge Exteriors for letting me run his boat while I am boatless to even take the chance and compete. This guy and his company combine A+ work combined with being an A+ human being.

I truely felt with all of the support, tools and equipment I had everything I needed to succeed. Life is full of lessons and I definitely learned one to say the least. I feel I am better off for it however, and am now more hungry than ever to continue the 2026 open water guiding and tournament season!

Post spawn Walleye fishing in May is often times the absolute best time for both numbers AND quality size Walleyes. I have a few openings yet mid May and towards the end of the month between tournaments. Let me know if you would like to get out and cash in!

*ANNOUNCEMENT*

After over a decade with Leisure Outdoor Adventures, I have decided to start a new chapter in my career. Moving forward immediately, I will be offering guided open water fishing trips under the name Chuck's Guide Service. Trips will be open to Leech Lake, Cass Lake and Lake Winnibigoshish as well as a few smaller lakes in the Walker, MN area.

I also will continue to operate during the ice season on Leech Lake only, as an owner of Leech Lake Fish House Rentals. This has been a business I have been a part owner of since 2019.

I truly appreciate the opportunities and support that Leisure Outdoor Adventures has shown me over the last 13 yrs. They gave me my start and an opportunity to live my dream and for that I will always be grateful. As business grows, it needs to expand and this is the best route moving forward for my family.

Those of you who know me know I'm not big on self promoting. I would be grateful for your continued support to 20+ yrs of experience and knowledge in the Leech Lake Area. Here's to a new beginning!
