REPEAT OF MOODY OUTDOOR DINING PLAN APPROVED

On Thursday, Waltham traffic officials approved a repeat of last year’s plan for outdoor dining on Moody Street this summer.

The hybrid plan, which allows business owners to set up dining tables in parking spaces behind Jersey barriers, will run from Friday, May 22 until Monday, September 7.

One of the plan’s supporters, Ward 8 city councilor Cathyann Harris, told the Waltham Traffic Commission that outdoor dining will support Moody restaurants that have been struggling.

“They are not having a good year,” Harris said.

BEER GARDEN APPROVED FOR SHEEPSHEARING

Mighty Squirrel will operate a new beer garden at this year’s sheepshearing festival.

The Waltham License Commission approved a request for a one-day beer and wine permit on Thursday.

The annual Sheepshearing Festival at Gore Place draws roughly 6,000 visitors every spring. This year’s festival will take place on Saturday, April 25.

Brian Burke, Director of Partnerships for Mighty Squirrel, explained that a perimeter with pylons and rope would be set up around a locked and secured beer van.

The wristband-only beer garden would be open from noon to 5:00 p.m. and restricted to 300 people. A food truck is also planned.

It’s not Mighty Squirrel’s first beer garden in Waltham. During COVID, it operated a popular beer garden outside its Waltham brewery [top photo].
