Another in-demand cruise destination is joining Mexico in rolling out a new cruise passenger fee on July 1. Luckily for cruise lines and their passengers, a compromise between the Mexican government and the cruise industry lowered Mexico’s new cruise passenger fee from a proposed $42 per passenger to just $5 per passenger to start. Mexico’s cruise passenger fee will rise gradually over the next few years, however, eventually reaching $21.

Mexico is not the only popular tourist destination implementing a new cruise passenger fee this summer.

When booking a cruise, you must decide whether you want to prepay gratuities or wait until you are onboard. Gratuities, or tips, are service charges that go toward the crew members, including your cabin steward, dining room team, and more — and how you pay them can make a big difference in your cruise experience. Within the past two years, I've taken over 15 cruises and prepaid my gratuities for every single voyage. Although part of the allure of cruise vacations is the complimentary dining that's included in the base fare, I've found that specialty restaurants typically have higher-quality food and a more intimate setting. Plus, I cruise so frequently that the dining room has begun to lose its appeal. So, my partner and I decided to purchase Royal Caribbean's Unlimited Dining Package for our weeklong vacation on Icon of the Seas. As the largest cruise ship in the world, she's filled from bow to stern with specialty dining options, including Izumi Sushi and Hibachi, Hooked, Pier 7, Chops Grille, and more.

But in Juneau, Alaska, these were the perfect ingredients to cause chaos. Despite the economic uncertainty, river cruise lines say bookings have remained strong and reservations for 2026 are already outpacing this year. Lines like AmaWaterways, Avalon Waterways, Tauck, Scenic, and Viking are all reporting strong bookings for 2026, saying that they expect better results for next year than in 2025.

She was arrested pending extradition to Laramie County in Cheyenne, Wyoming. She was wanted in connection to the embezzlement of funds from a church.

Celebrity Cruises’ next Edge-class ship, the Celebrity Xcel (pictured above, Celebrity Ascent, another Edge-class ship), is set to reposition to PortMiami in late 2026. According to published deployment, the 3,260-guest vessel arrives at the South Florida homeport following a summer deployment in the Mediterranean. After crossing the Atlantic, the newbuild debuts in Miami in early November 2026, kicking off a series of six- to eight-night cruises to the Caribbean. The schedule is highlighted by eight-night cruises to the Southern Caribbean that sail to Aruba, Bonaire, and Curaçao.

I’ve been lucky enough to sail to over 42 countries with three different major cruise lines–all while getting paid to perform for international audiences. I stepped away from that career, and one of the biggest reasons was because of the food onboard. I have celiac disease, and following a safe, gluten-free diet onboard these cruise ships felt like a daily battle that I was tired of fighting.

Regent Seven Seas Cruises today announced the inaugural deployment of the new Seven Seas Prestige. According to a press release, the ultra-luxury vessel will enter service in December 2026 for a series of cruises in the Caribbean and Europe. Currently under construction at the Fincantieri shipyard in Italy, the Prestige will be the first in Regent’s new Prestige Class. The ship’s inaugural season will include 13 cruises, including its maiden voyage, which is set to depart from Barcelona on Dec. 13, 2026.

Drink packages are one of the most expensive add-ons, costing hundreds of dollars for a weeklong cruise. Although many cruisers skip them to save money, I find that they're worth the splurge and make my vacation feel more inclusive. Recently, my partner and I sailed aboard Icon of the Seas, the world's largest cruise ship, on a 7-night voyage to the Eastern Caribbean. We both have Diamond status within Royal Caribbean's Crown & Anchor Society, so we get four complimentary drinks per day. Still, we decided to purchase the Deluxe Beverage Package for the trip, costing around $70 per person, per day, because we wanted the flexibility to enjoy cocktails by the pool, wine with dinner, and specialty coffees in the morning without checking our onboard statement.

One of the most common mistakes travelers make is plugging phones into an unprotected USB charging port at the airport, which hackers can corrupt with malware. Royal Caribbean International is expanding the casino onboard one of its Oasis-class vessels, the Wonder of the Seas. According to a statement sent to guests, the venue will take over the area of the existing Crown Lounge on Deck 4. As an exclusive space for guests on the higher levels of the company’s Crown & Anchor Society, the venue will be relocated to a different area on Deck 16. “During this transition, the Crown Lounge will be closed from June 22-28, then reopen on June 29 on Deck 16,” Royal Caribbean said.
