Walking tour season started today with a nice surprise. Thanks to the restoration of diplomatic relations with Syria, the Taft home in Kalorama (aka the Syrian embassy) is getting some much needed attention. Hedges were finally trimmed and work has started on the grounds, giving the best view of the home in years.

RIP Frank Gehry. The great architect worked all over the world, and he even got to leave his mark on Washington, DC. His initial vision for the Eisenhower Memorial was altered to satisfy Eisenhower's family, but in interviews, Gehry acknowledged that compromise was part of the job.

Gehry was a big admirer of DDE and even served in the military when Dwight was president.
