Yesterday we toured Tarcoles river, near the Pacific coast of Costa Rica. Though polluted, this river is home to a healthy community of American Crocodiles, including this individual who is about 5 meters (15 ft) long, and close to 90 years old.

It’s National Travel Advisor Day!

There’s this pesky rumor going around that it’s more expensive to work with a travel advisor than self booking.

Let me clear the air about this myth.

As your travel advisor I get paid in commissions from the hotels, guides and drivers I book with. I do not get paid unless you actually travel!

Here’s how it works: You work with me to plan your trip and I’m paid by the suppliers you book with. If you book online you are paying the same amount but you aren’t getting an expert to help you along the way. No one to help you figure out the current travel requirements, no one to sit on hold for sometimes hours to change your dates, book or change adventure activities, or troubleshoot issues that might come up during your trip - leaving us at Greener Travel to worry about the details while you enjoy your vacation!

Ecotourism has played a lead role in Costa Rica's history, helping to fund the preservation of the ethereal cloud forests of Monteverde and the remote jungles of the Osa Peninsula, as well as popular destinations such as the Tortuguero and Manuel Antonio national parks. And while nations around the world have taken an approach similar to that of Costa Rica, perhaps nowhere else do citizens play as important a part as authorities. Conservation, here, is a national cause.
