A beautiful start to my student tour season in Washington, DC.

I just spent five days guiding a wonderful group of students and chaperones from St. Matthew’s in Texas around the city. While we were at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial, I pointed out a small feature most visitors miss and mentioned that I had written about it in my book on Washington, DC.

Later, when we stopped at the National Archives gift shop, the chaperones surprised me by buying every copy the store had. At one point their group leader smiled and said to me, “See? We love you.”

A moment I won’t forget. Grateful for such a beautiful start to the student travel season. 💛

She was born into a system that told her she was owned.

She refused to accept it.

Harriet Tubman escaped slavery — and then returned again and again to lead others to freedom.

Her courage did not stay in the past. It reshaped this nation.

On March 7, we gather with to walk her story together.

Seats are filling.

Be there.

Grateful to close out Black History Month in the 100th anniversary year of Carter G. Woodson’s Negro History Week by guiding a historic tour of Washington, DC with a wonderful group of court reporters, stenographers, legal professionals, and friends.

Gathering together in front of the National Council of Negro Women was a meaningful reminder that these stories are not only history — they are part of our civic life today.

Next adventure: a day trip to Maryland’s Eastern Shore exploring the life of Harriet Tubman. I’d love for you to join me. Details at dctoursandevents.com

America is 250.

But freedom did not arrive all at once.

It was declared in 1776.
It was carried forward by people who were never included in the original promise.

Harriet Tubman made it real.

On March 7, in partnership with , we’ll explore her life not as a footnote — but as central to the American story.

Walk the story with us.

Stopped by the new Barnes & Noble in downtown DC and I love what they’re doing.

They’re intentionally supporting local authors and local history, and that matters — especially to those of us telling DC’s stories.

If you’re downtown, go browse and support them. 1025 F in the former Woodies building. Bookstores keep a city’s stories alive.

Thank you for welcoming local voices.

Black History Month 2026 feels especially meaningful. Standing beside Congressman James Clyburn — a living chapter of the history I now get to share — reminded me that the work continues. Grateful to do what I do because of leaders like him.

Such a special DC night ✨ I attended NMWA Nights at the National Museum of Women in the Arts and met artist Tawny Chatmon while hearing her speak beside her work. Her extensive exhibition is in honor of Black History Month and will only be here through March 6,. It truly deserves to be seen in person.
