After nearly 10 years of faithful and dedicated service, “The Commandant’s Own”says farewell to SSgt Eric Miller.

SSgt Miller served in the Trumpet/Soprano section and in the Front Ensemble on the synthesizer. He also served in a variety of roles such as Section Leader, Music Library Chief, and, most notably, Administrative Chief where his contributions will be felt by the unit for years to come.

He will be deeply missed and we wish him the best in his future career.

Meet Our Marines!

Private First Class Liam Gompf joins us from Austin, TX and reported to Marine Barracks Washington on September 4.

He’s 25 and graduated from the University of North Texas with a bachelor’s in Education.

He’s in the Baritone section and has previously marched Genesis Drum and Bugle Corps in 2018, and Bluecoats from 2019-2022.

When not working, he enjoys reading, working out, and playing video games.

Interesting facts:
His first job was teaching magic tricks and juggling at a summer camp.

Announcing our new Assistant Drum Major!

Following a rigorous and highly competitive audition process, Gunnery Sergeant Chris Walker has been selected as the sixth Assistant Drum Major in the history of “The Commandant’s Own.”

During his 16 years with the unit, Gunnery Sergeant Walker has performed on soprano bugle, trumpet, and mellophone and has served in numerous leadership roles, including Music Instructor, Operations Chief, and Administrative Chief.

As Assistant Drum Major, he will fulfill the duties of Company First Sergeant while helping lead the unit in ceremonies and performances across the United States and around the world.

Please join us in congratulating Gunnery Sergeant Walker on his selection!

Sergeant Froylan Barbosa joins us from Conover, NC and reported to Marine Barracks Washington in October 2018.

He’s 31 and graduated from Western Carolina University with a bachelor’s in General Music.

He’s in the Baritone section and has previously marched in 2014 and 2015.

When not working, he enjoys ultra marathon running, swimming, cycling, and playing Japanese role playing games.

Interesting facts:
He can make his own two-part harmony using just his voice!

Meet Our Marines!

Sergeant Travis Low joins us from Fairfax, VA and reported to Marine Barracks Washington in March 2021.

He’s 31 and graduated from JMU (Bachelor of Music Education), and George Mason University | GMU (Master of Music Performance).

He’s in the Baritone section and has previously marched Boston Crusaders from 2014-2016, and performed in Mix-it-Up! from 2017-2018.

When not working, he enjoys hiking and watching movies.

Interesting facts:
He plays trombone in two british style brass
bands, was born on Easter Sunday, and enjoys helping out at his local church.

Meet Our Marines!

Sergeant Joseph Hudson joins us from Mobile, AL and reported to Marine Barracks Washington in November 2023.

He’s 28, graduated from Jacksonville State University with a Bachelors of Arts in Music Education, and is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Applied Artificial Intelligence through the University of Maryland Global Campus.

He’s in the Tenor Drum section and has previously marched Southwind Drum & Bugle Corps in 2014-2016, Atlanta Quest in 2017-2018, and The Cavaliers in 2019.

When not working, he enjoys spending time with his family, hiking, rock climbing, all things outdoors, and reading.

Interesting facts:
He survived direct contact with an E4 tornado in nothing but his skivvies.
