Remember when we crashed a spacecraft into an asteroid?

Scientists studied images taken by LICIACube, the Italian Space Agency’s shoebox-sized satellite, and found that 35.3 million pounds (16 million kg) of rubble spewed from the asteroid Dimorphos. All that material gave Dimorphos a shove several times stronger than the hit from the spacecraft itself.

This means that a small, lightweight spacecraft can dramatically alter the path of an asteroid of similar size and composition: https://go.nasa.gov/3JpfEEA

On this day in history in 1963, Joe Walker made his last X-15 flight and set an altitude record while at it, to top things off. He took the North American X-15 to 354,300 feet (67 miles). Walker was posthumously awarded astronaut wings in 2005.

As an historian, Dr. Carter G. Woodson was mainly preoccupied with researching and recording the stories of others. He never wrote an autobiography, and he seldom made himself the focus of his professional publications. The first time Dr. Woodson himself was featured heavily in his own magazine, it was under extraordinary circumstances: the May 1950 issue of "The Negro History Bulletin" was the first to be published following Dr. Woodson's sudden death that April. Within the issue, his friends, ASNLH colleagues, former students, and more mourned and shared stories about Dr. Woodson, ensuring that the man who dedicated his life to remembering others would be remembered himself.

How do you want to be remembered?
