"I was trying to say the word for panda (xiongmao) but made a mistake with the tone. My teacher seemed confused, even though I thought I had nailed it. I told her I was talking about a panda. She laughed, and said that with the tone I used, I was telling her about my chest hair. The wrong tone can make a huge difference." ๐Ÿ’•โœˆ๏ธ

Lots of fun stories coming up on First Month Abroad, and while we get them ready for publication, here is a picture of the stunning San Galgano Abbey where last month I celebrated the marriage of two fantastic people! Be sure to not miss the Chapel on the hill which San Galgano, once a mighty knight, built after he saw visions of a round temple. A voice told him to climb the hill and renounce his worldly desires. He objected saying that task would be as impossible as splitting stones with a sword. Then he drew his sword and thrust it into the stone. To his amazement the weapons went through the stone like a hot knife through butter. The sword in the stone is still there for tourists to visit and recent metal analysis shows that it is consistent with 13th century metal work. How's that for Throwback Thursday?!
