One of the super awesome Army Museums operated by the U.S. Army Center of Military History!

Stopped by the National Museum of the Mounted Warrior today and it was a great visit.

There’s a lot of history here, plenty of interesting artifacts and some nice vehicles on display as well. There’s a LOT of reading, so if you’re like me and stop to read every plaque you’ll be pleased. History of the cavalry and more from the Revolutionary War through to modern day, with some really cool specific looks at the history of Fort Hood and the 1st Cavalry Division, too.

It’s about an hour and a half away from Austin proper and if you’re coming through this area of Texas or live nearby, come check it out.

It’s FREE, too!

The Battle of Queenston Heights, October 13, 1812, was the first American attempt to invade Upper Canada. A force of U.S. Regulars crossed the Niagara River but was driven back with heavy losses. The British commander, Gen. Isaac Brock, died in the action while leading a British counterattack. The battle also marked the baptism of fire for a young regular, Winfield Scott, who would go on to command the entire U..S. Army. Let Echoes of History take you there!

Fort Erie is across the Niagara River from Buffalo, New York. In 1813, American forces crossed the river and captured the fort. They then held it against a British attempt to recapture it. Today, the restored fort is a place of education and remembrance. We can take you there and tell these stories.
