Another toy gets forgotten.
Another gift card gets spent.
Another “thing” eventually ends up in a drawer.

But an experience?

That becomes the story your family tells for years.

A cruise. A weekend away. A big adventure. Even just time together somewhere new.

Those are the moments that stick with us.

I was reminded of that recently after traveling with my own family. The things I remember most aren’t what we bought — they’re the dinners, the laughs, the games, the adventures, and the time we had together.

So the next time you’re wondering what to give someone you love, maybe skip the stuff.

Give them a memory instead.

And if that memory happens to involve a vacation, I can help with that. 😉

We Made a Big Mistake at Pike Place Market

If I planned Seattle again, I’d change this immediately.

We thought we could just squeeze Pike Place Market into embarkation day before our cruise.

That was a mistake.

It is huge, crowded, full of food, fish, artists, shops, and more than 280 vendors spread across multiple levels.

We saw the flying fish. We wandered. We ate.

And we barely scratched the surface.

If I planned this trip again, I’d give Pike Place at least half a day before cruise day instead of trying to fit it in around luggage drop-off and boarding.

🎧 We talk about everything we’d repeat, and a few things we’d change, in Episode 51 of Adventures of Two Grey Mice.

Save this if Seattle is your Alaska cruise port. 🚢

🗑️ What do you think of Epcot’s new tables? I am not sure they can put enough of them out to avoid having to balance your plate on the new curved trash cans. are you going to Food and Wine to check out the new tables?

That Famous Seattle Photo? It’s Taken Here. 🏔️

I had a very different picture of Kerry Park in my head.

You know THE Seattle photo.

Skyline. Space Needle. Mount Rainier sitting perfectly behind everything.

That view comes from Kerry Park.

So naturally, I pictured this sprawling beautiful city park.

Nope.

It’s basically a tiny overlook with a brick wall and a whole lot of people waiting for sunset.

But the view? Completely worth it.

Even without Mount Rainier cooperating for us.

🎧 Our full three-day Seattle recap is Episode 51 of Adventures of Two Grey Mice.

Add Kerry Park to your Seattle list, but don’t expect Central Park when you get there.

My New Favorite Vacation Splurge

📸 Finally. Vacation photos with BOTH of us in them.
No tripod. No selfie stick. No handing your phone to a stranger.

I booked us a vacation photo session in Seattle and fully expected it to just be a nice way to get some pictures together.

It ended up being one of my favorite things we did.

Our photographer took us around Pioneer Square, found locations that matched what we liked, gave us local recommendations, and actually became part of the experience.

And now we have vacation photos where one of us isn’t missing because they’re holding the camera.

Would I recommend this to clients? Absolutely.

🎧 We talk about the whole experience in Episode 51.

Save this idea for a trip where you actually want everyone in the pictures. 🎙️

The Seattle Attraction That Actually Lived Up to the Hype.

Pictures do not prepare you for Chihuly.

We already liked Dale Chihuly’s work before this trip.

Then we walked into Chihuly Garden and Glass.
Wow.

That is basically the intelligent commentary we were capable of for several minutes.

The scale is incredible. The indoor galleries are gorgeous. Then you walk outside and see the glass worked directly into the gardens with the Space Needle looming above it.

If we went back to Seattle tomorrow, I’d happily do this again.

🎧 We ranked it among our favorite Seattle experiences in Episode 51.

Send this to the person you’d drag through a glass museum with you.

Why There’s an Entire Floor Under Seattle
Turns out a giant fire solved one very disgusting problem.

This was one of those tours we booked thinking:

“This will either be fascinating or hilariously stupid.”

Fascinating won.

Old Seattle had flooding, mud, massive tides, sanitation problems, and then a fire wiped out a huge part of downtown.

So when they rebuilt, they raised the streets.

The old first floors? They’re still underneath them.

We did the Beneath the Streets tour, and it ended up being one of our favorite things in Seattle.

Why We Didn’t Go Up the Space Needle

A Seattle local talked us out of one of Seattle’s biggest attractions.
We absolutely went to the Space Needle.

Rob may even have had a slightly emotional moment standing underneath it.

But we didn’t pay to go up.

Our photographer, who lives in Seattle, told us there were better views of the skyline elsewhere. So we took her advice and spent that time doing something else.

Was that the right call?

For us, yes.

And we still got the iconic Seattle view later.

🎧 Hear what we did instead in Episode 51.

Seattle people, defend the Space Needle in the comments. Should we go up next time?

✈️ Flight landed on time. Bags arrived. Seattle light rail was waiting.

Everything was going beautifully.

And then I reached for my wallet.

Which was still on the airplane.

So our peaceful little journey into Seattle began with me running back across SeaTac while Rob guarded four rolling suitcases and two backpacks.

Good news: I got it back.

Better news: Rob will probably never let me forget it.

🎧 The full Seattle adventure, including the hill that was allegedly “slight,” is in Episode 51.
