Hello DT6 Faithful! πŸ‘‹

We hope this post finds you well!

Can I get a favor from all of you.....

If you could send me a Big Lake full of water that was 3Β° cooler I'd really appreciate it!!!! Man..... for the second week of September, our water is still hanging at 57.9Β°..... still a bit too warm to get those Char really ripping in their spawn cycle. Remember all the rain I spoke of in July.....that's what we're supposed to be getting right now to get our water temps down. On the brighter side since we updated last.... we were able to spend FOUR consecutive nights at our new cabin on Lake Louise! We are in πŸ’• More to follow on that adventure 🎣

Since our last report .....not a whole lot has changed concerning fishing. We have only fished on Big Lake and a single kids trip on Finger Lake so this is my experience. Water temps have come down a couple degrees, but we're still a bit too warm. Either a lot of rain or some clear cold nights will help and we have a little bit of both in our future. Daytime temps are still above average for this time of year. Outside of being a bit too warm, water clarity is perfect and we're finally starting to see some Birch leaves falling on the water, kind of mother nature's indicator that we're finally cooling off.

Pike - We are still finding a good fish here and there. We haven't dedicated as much time to fishing Pike, as Char fishing has been the requested primary target. They are still in their predictable spots, find the food. Find the weeds. Find the fish. Once you figure that out, now the lure that was working yesterday does not work today and nothing has changed! Have plenty of backup lures that are proven and you will find success.

Char - The fish are where they're supposed to be in the water column, they are where they're supposed to be concerning structure but the switch is still not flipped. The sockeyes have finally moved on and we're starting to see just primarily Char now. We made a couple adjustments and are having some better success....the good news is we're starting to see some BIG mature bucks. Their aggression is building which is a good sign.... it can only get better from here!

Trout - We haven't targeted trout much yet this fall. We're starting to see the sockeyes clean the algae off the gravel so get ready for eggs to drop. Once they do we will be in the fight. I know I'm still seeing a lot of rainbows out in 15 to 17 ft of water feeding on juvenile sockeye moving out of the lake.

Finger Lake - Fishing was very good. We had a family with a 5-year-old daughter who had never fished. We primarily targeted stocked landlocked Chinook salmon out in 22 ft of water fishing over clumpy weeds. Small pieces of brined 🍀 shrimp under a small jigging spoon was the key to a lights out trip! By the first hour into the trip she was completely independent and laid the hammer on every hook set. At the end of the trip she asked Mom and Dad when we could go fishing again at the end of the trip. 😍

Job. Done. ❀️

We look forward to these upcoming final trips and wrapping up our season which is now on the horizon.

Once again, thank you to our wonderful customers that keep us moving forward!

Take care,

πŸ”₯New Social Media Post FormatπŸ”₯

Give us a πŸ‘ if you like it!

Hello DT6 family!

As promised, here is your weekly photo dump! πŸ“ΈπŸŸ Be sure to read the captions on all the photos! As part of our new social media interaction, I'm going to give some of my seat-of-the-pants // hands on fishing report(s) on our current local lake(s).....the rest of this fall will be Big Lake! Everything I type will be factual and (Sonia said) will contain no opinion (darn it). I'm not going to divulge secrets that we have worked relentlessly for over a decade now to learn, but I'm going to share my experiences on the water so people can get a vibe on "what's going on out there" and maybe help you figure something out with your fishing game.

I have typed a lot. If you want some good information, read the whole thing.

I promise.

If not and you check out..... Thank you again for tuning in and we look forward to seeing you in the future!

Here we go.....

Pike - July is generally our warmest month concerning water temps. In the month of July this year we received an unheard of 6" of rain. Water temps which usually peak on Big Lake in July at about 72Β° and ignite the 70Β° bite never got above 68Β° this summer. In the end there never was a summer Pike bite that was reliable. The good news is the pike also responds to the water temperatures dropping, which as of this morning reached 60Β° and take a look at what is coming around. I've been watching these fish for 3 weeks not take lures or bait. I've invited plenty of you to come bowfishing... every one of you could have stuck these fish. From here on to ice-up pike fishing is going to get better everyday. Get out there and figure it out!!

Char - gggrrrrrhhhh. One day it is predictable as it can possibly be and hot as an oven and the next day you perfectly roll over 35 mating pairs staggered exactly like they should be in the thermocline and not a single bite after six passes. For those of you that have been on the boat, our "Swedish Secret πŸ˜‰" is still paying dividends, but that switch just flips off for no reason. I know a lot but I still do not the answer to this one. This keeps me humble. I have a feeling it's sockeye interaction while they're in the early stages of the spawn. Once again, this is first hand information. But in the end we've already caught some gorgeous fish, and as with the Pike fishing folks it's only going to get better as we move further into the fall and that water temp keeps dropping!!!

Rainbow Trout - generally, in this period of the fall, I'm not specifically targeting these fish with customers. There are massive amounts of juvenile sockeye moving out of the lake right now and the trout are hanging in 17 ft of water. 2' above them is as much food as they can possibly eat..... AND they've probably already been following the school for half a mile. Once the sockeyes start dropping eggs the gloves are off so more to follow............

GAME ON.

Still going to work hard for that first 30" plus ADFG verified Arctic Char out of Big Lake in the last 2 decades. We have reached 29.5 once and numerous 29s & below. Some of you have put up those numbers so congratulations once again!!

I know this was long-winded. I'll find ways to condense it, but I tried to keep it entertaining. I let loose some pretty good information in there so grab hold of that.

For those of you that have fished with us on Big Lake or are an avid fisherman.... some of this babbling mumbo jumbo I just let loose will make sense πŸ˜‚ 😭 πŸ˜‚

OR if you are trying to figure out a fishing scenario like a CSI detective on a manhunt

OR you fish THE VALLEY (REPRESENT!!!)..... some of this stuff is going to hit home πŸ’œ

Thank you again from the bottom of our hearts to everybody who joined us this past week. As much as we want our butts to be at our new cabin becoming Lake Trout masters & looking for that new state record bourbot (we were so close SPENCER!!!), it's been a blast down here entertaining all of you & making new friends ❀️

Talk to you soon,

Sonia & Dan βš“

P.S. - I taught a HERO (US Army) how to properly fillet a damn Pike the right way so you don't waste a ton of meat .............

That's opinion. Sonia said I can't do that.

I'm out.

(Dan)

P.S.S. We finalllyyyy got to see Mr. Dave Mustaine and MEGADETH at OUR Alaska State Fair! πŸ–€

P.S.S.S.S.S.- for those of you that read the whole thing I told you it was going to be worth it πŸ˜‰ 😜 ✌️

πŸ‘‹ Hello everybody.....we wanted to take a minute to check in and just let everybody know we are doing well! Since the purchase of our new πŸ›– cabin, we have been burning the candle at both ends! 🫩πŸ₯±πŸ€― We are still on the water with customers 4 or 5 days a week and on our off days we are doing our best to get our cabin up and running. πŸ’ͺ So that explains the lack of social media presence! With the closing of our coho salmon, we had to juggle a lot of trips to try and fulfill customer wishes and did our best with what we had to work with.

🎣 Here is a photo dump from some of our recent trips and photos of the few silver salmon trips we were able to conduct prior to the closures.

πŸ”₯ We had our first ever double donkey Arctic Char hookup. A 24.5" + a 26" at the same time. Great moment! 🧑🐟

We finally tagged our first stud pike yesterday, a beautiful big male with gorgeous red fins. 🐊 Look at the colors, markings and those teeth. 😲

Hope you all are doing well, we will do our best to share our customer photos and stay in touch. Once we get our cabin up and running, we will gladly share some photos when the time is right.

Have a great weekend and be safe out there. ❀️

We are finally catching up with our customer photos and wanted to showcase our new friends from Texas. βš“ We had a wonderful morning on the water prior the recent coho salmon restrictions. They escaped the πŸ₯΅ heat to travel to beautiful Alaska and reeled in some gorgeous fish. 🐟
