I cried in the National Gallery today.

Not because I was overwhelmed by the museum or because I was having some grand, dramatic London moment—but because I finally stood in front of a painting I have wanted to see since I was a little girl.

The Ex*****on of Lady Jane Grey.

I’ve seen this painting countless times in books and photographs. I’ve read her story, studied the details of the painting, and wondered what it would feel like to someday stand in front of it.

Today, “someday” happened.

And I wasn’t prepared for how emotional that would be.

She was only sixteen years old. Standing there and seeing the sheer size of the painting, the darkness surrounding her, and Jane almost glowing in white as she reaches blindly for the ex*****on block—it felt completely different from every photograph I had ever seen. For a moment, she stopped feeling like a figure from Tudor history and simply looked like a young girl who must have been terrified.

I stood there much longer than I expected to.

And then I cried.

I think part of those tears were for Jane. But I think some were for the little girl I used to be, too—the one who found this painting and this story so many years ago and dreamed about seeing it with her own eyes.

She had no idea where life would take her. She didn’t know how much of the world she would eventually get to see, how many adventures she would have, or that one day she would travel all the way to London and walk into the National Gallery looking specifically for Jane.

But we made it.

There are places you visit because they’re on an itinerary. There are things you see because you’re supposed to see them.

And then there are moments that quietly close a circle you didn’t realize you’d been carrying with you your entire life.

Today was one of those moments.

I finally saw her. ❤️

And I hope I never forget exactly how it felt to stand there.

I tend to travel a little differently than most people.

While everyone else is just enjoying the city, I’m mentally taking notes like I’m being graded on it. 😂 Would I recommend this hotel? Is this attraction worth the money? How much walking is actually involved? Would my clients enjoy this? Is this restaurant worth sending someone to? Would I do this differently next time?

I’m constantly putting myself in my clients’ shoes instead of just… being on vacation.

One day, I’ll learn to travel selfishly. Today is not that day. 😂

Because when you’re a travel advisor, apparently even your own vacations become accidental research trips. My brain is basically running a nonstop Yelp review, Google Map and client consultation simultaneously.

And honestly? It gets exhausting.

So while wandering around Edinburgh, I finally decided I needed to stop overthinking everything, slow down, and live in the moment.

Naturally, I chose that moment to have a conversation with a plague doctor.

Because nothing says “relax, Lex” quite like taking life advice from a man dressed for the Black Death. 💀😂

🎃✨ SPOOKY SEASON HAS ARRIVED AT MAGIC KINGDOM! ✨🎃

There’s just something different about Disney World during Halloween season. 🧡🏰

Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party transforms Magic Kingdom into the cutest (and just a little spooky 👻) Halloween celebration — and it’s one of my favorite special events at Walt Disney World!

🎃 Mickey’s Boo-to-You Halloween Parade
👻 Disney characters dressed in their Halloween best
🧙‍♀️ The Sanderson Sisters taking over Cinderella Castle

👻 And YES… adults can wear costumes too!

One of the best parts? The party is a separately ticketed event with a limited number of guests, so you get to experience Magic Kingdom in a completely different way after dark.

And when the Headless Horseman comes riding down Main Street before the Boo-to-You Parade? CHILLS. Every. Single. Time. 🐎🎃

EPCOT Food & W**e Festival will always have my heart. 🩵✨

It was one of the first EPCOT festivals I ever attended waaaaay back in the day, and all these years later, it’s still one of my absolute favorite times of year at the Disney parks.

Was it approximately 147 degrees outside? Yes. 😂 Did that stop me from hitting as many food booths as humanly possible? Absolutely not.

And THEN I got to make one of my childhood dreams come true and see HANSON in concert. 🎶✨ They were SO good — but possibly even better was looking around and watching an entire crowd of moms in Mickey ears, babies on their hips, suddenly transported straight back to their teenage years. 😂🩵

The drinks were flowing, the nostalgia was strong, and the food this year was GREAT.

And yes… THE LAMB CHOP is back.

Just try it. Trust me. 😂

One of my favorite things about Food & W**e is that so many of the dishes are designed to pair with the drinks offered at each booth. You can try a w**e pairing, grab a flight of hard c***r, split a few dishes, and basically eat and drink your way around the world without committing to a huge meal.

My strategy?

🍷 Grab a drink.
🍴 Try something new.
🌎 Wander to the next country.
🎶 Catch some live music.
🍎 Order a c***r flight.
🥩 Get the lamb chop.
✨ Repeat until further notice.

And when you’re feeling sufficiently full of international cuisine and questionable amounts of c***r, go ride Soarin’ and feel like you’re literally on top of the world…

…or at least on top of the EPCOT ball. 😂
