Clay Fest 2025 Artist --- Sandra Koslowski

I have been a working artist for most of my adult life. I've always loved doing portrait work and that is my inspiration for the faces I put on my pieces.

Clay Fest 2025 Artist --- Melissa Flynn | Free WIll Pottery

Melissa Flynn is a ceramic artist focused on crisp lines and dynamic, flowy glazes. As a child, she fell in love with clay during art class -a fascination that only deepened over time. Seeking a creative change from her corporate day job, Melissa enrolled in an adult ceramics class, and she was hooked from the very first session.

Today, her work tries to capture a balance between beauty and function. Influenced by clean architectural lines, Melissa often incorporates slightly cantilevered features, pushing clay to its structural limits. To counterbalance these sharp, precise edges, she uses glazes that evoke a beachy, relaxed vibe - melding rigidity with fluidity in unexpected ways.

Melissa's evolving style reflects her relentless curiosity and passion for ceramic art. Each piece invites viewers to appreciate the tension between structure and softness, honoring both the predictable and the delightfully surprising.

Clay Fest 2025 Artist --- Amanda Jones | Serendipitous Designs

My ceramic work explores the fragile beauty of what it means to be alive. Each piece is a reflection of our human experience - imperfect, resilient, and textured by time and experiences. The surfaces of my forms are organic and flowing, yet some are cracked, distressed, or embossed - a merging of movement and texture. Soft glazes drift across forms, settling into folds and recesses where crystals bloom into tiny universes of color. Though we all feel broken at times, my work is a reminder that beauty often resides in the fractured low places where there is beauty to be discovered. When possible, I incorporate light, allowing a gentle glow to emanate from within, casting warmth and creating an ambient presence in any space.

Clay Fest 2025 Artist --- John Hunter | Community Hope

John Hunter has been working with clay since 1968 and spent 25 years in Windhoek, Namibia, where he and his wife Suzanne lead Community Hope, an initiative supporting disadvantaged children and training teachers. His pottery not only provides income but also serves as a tool for training local apprentices - over 5,000 bowls have been made with his Bailey extruder to support “Empty Bowl” fundraising events.

Influenced by Shoji Hamada and Bernard Leach, John studied at Penland School of Crafts in 1970 and launched his career at The Pot Shop in Venice Beach, California. His work blends Anglo, Asian, and American ceramic traditions.

John conducts workshops worldwide, including an upcoming one at Adamah near Dodgeville, WI. He’s received multiple awards from the Potter’s Association of Namibia, including the Premiere Award for his elephant sculptures and a wood-fired teapot.

Driven by a deep commitment to underserved youth, John relocated his studio and kiln to the Lighthouse at Community Hope so children could learn pottery firsthand. Since moving back to Madison, Wisconsin in 2021, John and Suzanne continue creating and fundraising from their home near Tenney Park.

Clay Fest 2025 Artist --- Dorothee Pfundt | Nature’s Turn Pottery

While mainly throwing utilitarian pottery, I am lately adding garden art inspired by plant shapes and texture. Using some bright glaze colors between earth tones, I hope to brighten up everyday life with each ceramic piece that is worth to hold onto.
