Vacation day 10! We disembarked the ship and met our shuttle to our hotel in Barcelona at 8:30. We stowed our bags with them and headed off to do the Hop on Hop off bus. We did both loops to see as much of the city as possible. And boy does Barcelona have a lot of unique architecture. Had pizza... yes pizza for lunch! Checked into our hotel about 4. Exhausted stayed in since we were still full from the pizza and really needed rest. We had 10 days of sunny, hot and activity full days. We had an 8 am transfer this morning for the airport to fly home. It was a very busy 10 days. We throughly enjoyed every place we visited. Now to start planning our next adventure.

DAY 9 of vacation- day 7 of cruise. We docked in Marseille. I was told to do an excursion out of the city so that's what we did. We started in a city called Aix en Provence where our guide took us on a walking tour of the medieval part of the city. Then we had free time to have a capachino and do some shopping. Our next stop was Avignon. Anyone who knows me knows how much I loved walled ancient cities and this one doesn't disappoint. Avignon was actually the home of the Catholic Popes for most of the 1300's. We visited the outside of the Palace of the Popes because we didn't have enough time to go through it. We had lunch did a little shopping and headed back to the bus for the 1 1/2 hour ride through the French countryside and back to the ship. One final dinner in Terry Dragwa 's favorite restaurant LeBistro which happens tobe NCL's French restaurant then off to pack!

Vacation day 8 - France. We anchored off the cute little town of Villefranche. We booked an excursion to Monaco and Monte Carlo. We booked the excursion through NCL which included a walking tour and free time in Monaco and then again in Monte Carlo (which is part of Monaco. We traveled along the French Riviera. We visited the palace where Prince Albert lives and also the cathedral where Grace Kelly married Prince Rainier and where they both were buried. We had some lunch and did a bit of shopping. Monaco is only 2 square kilometers and has a population of over 38,000 so its pretty crowded! We then went to Casino Square in Monte Carlo. We paid about $60 for a glass of w**e, a Mojito and a bottle of water! We saw a bunch of fancy cars and went into the entry way of the casino. Got back just in time to tender back to the ship. We got a glimpse at how the 1% lives!

After a very relaxing and well deserved sea day our DAY 7 stop was Livorno Italy. We decided to redo the excursion to Lucca and Pisa since it rained last time we were there. Well the weather was hot and sunny! We booked through Shore Excursions Group. I love them for Excursions. Anyone needing shore excursions there is a link on our webpage where you can search by your cruise. Or reach out to Margo Pulling or I for a direct link. Well of course we had a different guide this time which was nice because she gave us information on different parts of Lucca. We had a delicious lunch of homemade pasta and a great brucchetta. Next to Pisa for the obligatory photos of Terry Dragwa saving the leaning tower! They got us safely back to the ship and we were off to France!

DAY 5 - Catania. We had been here before and did a tour to Taormina and Castelmola so this time we just stayed in Catania. A short shuttle to town and then a bit of exploring on our own. We stopped for a b**r and cannoli. Things that only go together on vacation! After walking to a point we could get a photo of Mt Etna we headed back. Walking through the fish market was memorable... boy do they have a lot of fish to sell!

Day 4 - skipping day 3 as it was embarkation day and not very exciting. Day 4 we did a short cruise up the Amalfi Coast to Amalfi. Such a cute little town. We climbed the steps and visited the cathedral, we shopped for lemon things, and of course we had some lemon sorbet. Then headed back to the ship to relax.

Day 2 - Rome again! So we got up so early and took a 7 am taxi to St Peter's Basilica to beat the line. After attending mass, shopping and seeing the Basilica we headed to the Vatican Museums for an 11 am tour. After a taxi back to the hotel, a shower and dinner, we met our nighttime golf cart tour who picked us up right at the hotel. What a spectacular day and evening. I would highly recommend the golf cart tour company we used. Since it was our 2nd time touring the Vatican museums I didnt take many photos.. I've got tons from the 1st time! Then finally bed to get ready for our transfer to the port the next morning.

DAY 1 ROME - Ok so I've been remiss. We started this adventure from the Newark Airport last Thursday. Thunder storms and mechanical delays had us arriving 4 hours late to Rome. After a transfer to our hotel we dropped our bags and set out to explore. We had been there 2 years ago and stayed at the same hotel so it was like coming home. We walked to the Trevi Fountain and then checked into our hotel. We took the HOHO bus around Rome and then had dinner. Walked back to the hotel exhausted as we had early plans for Saturday.

On August 17, 1978, the Double Eagle II made history by completing the first successful transatlantic balloon crossing.

Three adventurers — Ben Abruzzo, Maxie Anderson and Larry Newman — took off from Maine and spent nearly six days floating across the Atlantic before landing near Paris, France. 🇫🇷

Just think about that for a minute…

Today, we can board a plane on the East Coast, fall asleep somewhere over the Atlantic, and wake up in Europe. ✈️🌍

Travel has certainly come a long way — but that desire to see what’s on the other side of the ocean hasn’t changed.
