Those who've enjoyed the hiking trails at Ivy Creek Natural Area have walked on the premises of the old River View Farm, purchased by Hugh Carr in 1870 with money saved from years of sharecropping following his emancipation. The Carr and Greer families prospered on the farm for several generations, uplifting the community as educators, farmers, land stewards, and leaders.

BOOT VS. TRAIL RUNNER?

Answer: It's your preference! Despite the common belief that you *need* high-ankle support, more hikers are moving toward lightweight trail runners (75% of 2021 AT hikers chose them).

But in the rocky Blue Ridge, no one will blame you for selecting stability over lightweight. In the end, choose comfort!

After several days of feeling stressed and scarce on time, I thought that it would be in the spirit of this philosophy and of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day to give. The South River is a little cleaner for it!

Partway through I remembered DUH, I own a BUSINESS now. With more foresight and planning on my part, let's have a community clean-up day soon!

WOW! My friend Elizabeth set out to hike/walk 222 miles in 2022. She says she loved getting to know all the trails in the Waynesboro/Staunton area but that she would NOT recommend setting such a high goal. But man, look how she finished the year strong.
